Weekly Newsletter 15th March 2024

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

I want to start this week by thanking all of the parents and family members who came to support our Science Workshops on Tuesday as part of British Science Week! It has been wonderful to see children this week really excited and engaged in their science learning and carrying out investigative work – thinking like scientists! We have planted seeds and observed the changes, tested our reaction times and sent our ‘rocket mice’ flying with force! I also want to take the opportunity to thank Miss Grange for organizing last week’s #LetGirlsPlay Biggest Ever Football event and to thank our Sports Leaders in school who helped out throughout the day. They were amazing!

The Great British Bake Off:

The Great British Bake Off is back on Thursday 21st March. Children in each class can bake something at home to be entered in our Bake Off competition with prizes for the winner in each class. All items (including any donations of bought cakes etc) will be available to purchase from classrooms at home time that day from the classrooms. Please enter classrooms from the playground. Any money raised will go towards our end of Year 6 Leavers Camping event so please come and support us! We can’t wait to see (and taste!) your creations.

Easter Disco:

We are holding an Easter disco for children in the afternoon of Friday 22nd March on the last day of term. Children can come in party clothes, non school uniform or even as the Easter Bunny for the day! For £1 children can get sweets and a drink at the disco. To make it easier for parents this year this needs to be paid on Arbor before the day (under clubs). Children will also enjoy a picnic lunch that day.

Pre-ordering lunch for Friday, 22nd March:

Please can we ask ALL parents to log onto ParentPay and order their child’s packed lunch option for Friday 22nd March as soon as possible please or indicate that your child will be having a packed lunch from home on this day. This will help us enormously with arrangements to release some staff to be able to attend a staff funeral. We thank you in advance for your help and support with this.

Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies:

Our Year 6 Leavers’ Hoodies are now available to order from the Vortex website and can be worn by Year 6 children after Easter for the last term with us! What an incredible class they have been all the way through school and in particular this academic year! They set an excellent example for all other children in school and have an amazing work ethic – I can’t wait to see them looking smart in their Leavers’ Hoodies!

Stocksbridge Scouts Food Driver:

We are supporting the 3rd Stocksbridge Scouts Annual Multi-School Food Drive this year after being nominated by one of our pupils to get involved. All donations made between 11th and 22nd March will be collected by the Scouts and taken to the local Community Food Bank. We are also in competition to see which school involved can get the most donations! We are accepting donations of: tinned fruit, tinned veg, tinned meat, tinned puddings, UHT milk, dish soap, laundry soap, nappies and toiletries. We would appreciate any donations.

It is very close but here is how the schools are currently ranked.

1. Stocksbridge Nursery Infants

2. Wharncliffe Side tied with St. Ann

3. West Meadows

4. Stocksbridge Juniors

5. Stocksbridge High

Thank you:

A massive thank you to Tesco who are coming into school next Friday to make pizzas with our Year 4 children as part of their Design Technology food project! This is also a great opportunity to learn about food hygiene. We can’t wait to see what they create!

Easter Egg Raffle:

From Monday, we will be selling tickets for an easter egg raffle, every day, at morning drop off and afternoon collection in the playground. The tickets will be £1 a strip.

Attendance Matters!

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.

Last Week's Attendance:

F1 AM (incl 30 hours): 91.9%

F2: 87.6%

Year 1: 96.7%

Year 2: 82%

Year 3: 89.7%

Year 4: 90.7%

Year 5: 92.7%
