Building Together, Growing Stronger
The 2025–2026 school year is off to a fantastic start, and I am proud of the teamwork, collaboration, and dedication shown by our staff, students, and families. Together, we are creating an outstanding learning environment where every student can thrive.
This year marks a significant milestone for Mt. Vernon Community Schools with the addition of an intermediate school and the opening of a new elementary building. These changes are not only helping us manage our growing enrollment but also giving our students the space, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Growth continues to be a defining story for our district. This fall, we welcomed 250 new students, surpassing last year’s record growth of 162 students. While this is exciting and a testament to the strength of our schools and community, it also signals a trend we anticipate to continue. Planning thoughtfully for this growth is one of our top priorities.
At the same time, we are working diligently to reduce operational costs. The legislature has cut our operational revenues considerably, which makes continuing our careful financial stewardship even more important than ever. We remain committed to providing the highest quality education possible while using our resources wisely.
As we celebrate this strong beginning, I want to thank each of you for your support and partnership. It is through our shared commitment that Mt. Vernon continues to be a place where students can learn, grow, and achieve at the highest levels.
The start of the 2025–2026 school year burst with excitement and energy as students across the district filled hallways with smiles, laughter, and anticipation for the year ahead!
Just before the first day of school, back-to-school nights offered families a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, explore classrooms, and get a feel for their new learning environments.
Marauder Mentors at Mt. Vernon High School warmly welcomed new students and guided incoming freshmen, helping them feel at home as they began their high school journey.
On the first day of school, Dr. Parker joined an elementary morning bus route, greeting students with a warm welcome and connecting with parents along the way.
With the addition of a fourth tier for grades five and six at Mt. Vernon Intermediate School, the district is better equipped to support our growing enrollment while continuing to provide students with a rich and engaging educational experience, second to none.
With the support of our dedicated staff, engaged parents and guardians, and caring community members, MVCSC is confident that the 2025–2026 school year will be both successful and memorable.
Strategic Plan
Guided by feedback from a community-wide survey and a committee of parents, staff, and community members, MVCSC developed its 2024–2029 Strategic Plan along with updated Mission, Vision, and Values. Clear goals and objectives were established to ensure the district continues to grow while staying true to its mission and empowering students for a successful future.
While continuing to pursue these goals and values, a central focus of the 2025–2026 school year is fostering a true sense of belonging for every student. Each school has developed its own strategies to achieve this, all rooted in the district's Mission, Vision, and Values.
