Last Sport day for Term 1

Wednesday 9 April

Due to the many camps that are running this week, and the subsequent reduction in the number of students at school, we will run an alternative sport program at school tomorrow, Wednesday 9 April.

Also a reminder to parents and carers that all fees for Sport this term were calculated on a 7-week payment basis and parents were not charged for this week.

Students will be advised of their activity tomorrow once the number of students present are finalised in the morning.

Over the Autumn holiday break

We wish everyone a happy, safe and restful Autumn holiday break. Take this time to rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones. Thank you to all our families for an amazing start to the school year. Our teachers and support staff have created many varied opportunities inside and outside of the classroom for students to extend their learning, demonstrate excellence and feel successful.

To ensure we continue to maintain high expectations for our students' learning and wellbeing please have a look at your child's uniforms and school supplies over the holidays:

Winter uniforms

With the cooler weather ahead, it's time to start sourcing appropriate uniform.

Our school colours are navy, black, white and teal.
  • Long pants - students can wear plain navy or black long pants (Chinos or trackpants)
  • Denim jeans, tights and bike pants - are NOT a part of our school uniform
  • Jumpers - should be plain navy only, without stripes or large logos (any external logos must be no larger than a credit card)
  • Undershirts - can be white, black, or navy blue
  • Shoes - must be totally enclosed footwear, no crocs, sandals or slides

Replenish all school supplies

Over the break, please check your child's workbooks and pencil case and buy new workbooks if their workbooks are full, or repair them if they need repairing. Also make sure your child has a full pencil case of pens and a calculator.

We look forward to seeing everyone back after the holidays, ready for another great term of learning.

BBHS Cross Country Carnival

Racing, friendly competition, and plenty of fun!

A huge thank you to all the students who participated in this year’s BBHS Cross Country Carnival! The day is always a good mix of racing, friendly competition, and plenty of fun – and this year was no exception. Days like this are important for building school spirit with teachers and students out of the classroom, interacting in a different environment.

A late change to the course due to mother nature's affects on our beach added something special to the course, creating an exciting and varied race.

The new course included a great combination of trail, single track, grass, and even a bit of mud – making it a memorable experience for everyone.

We were thrilled to welcome our Year 7 students to this year’s event, and it was clear we have some very talented young runners among this group! Congratulations to all our Age Champions, and a special mention to the Top 6 in each age group who have qualified for the upcoming FNC Championships - which will be held on our beautiful track right here at Byron Bay High School – a true home advantage!

Our 2025 Age Champions are:

  • 12 Years Boys - Charlie D
  • 12 Years Girls - Alera T
  • 13 Year Boys - Finley S
  • 13 Year Girls - Giorgia B
  • 14 Years Boys - Zen M
  • 14 Years Girls - Stella B
  • 15 Years Boys - Romeo P
  • 15 Years Girls - Indy F
  • 16 Years Boys - Kai Y
  • 16 Years Girls - Juliet P
  • 17 Years Boys - Banjo C
  • 17 Years Girls - Eloise K
  • 18 Year Boys - Spencer W
  • 18 Years Girls - Tess K and Indigo S

For those students who qualify, the confirmed date for the Far North Coast carnival is:

Thank you also to our wonderful CAPAL faculty, along with the Entertainment crew and our talented student musicians, for putting on some great music to entertain everyone after the Carnival.

Well done to all who took part last Friday, and thank you for making this event such a success!

Our U15s Soccer teams triumph over Xavier Catholic College

U15s Girls Bill Turner Soccer Trophy - Round 1 update

The BBHS U15s Bill Turner Soccer Trophy team

Last Thursday, our Under 15s girls soccer team faced off against Xavier Catholic College in Round 1 of the Bill Turner Cup Trophy Competition. It was an exhilarating match from start to finish! The Xavier girls came out strong, scoring an impressive early goal in the first half.

Despite this setback, our team fought hard until the very end. Standout performances were seen from all players, particularly our Captain, Acacia P, and Mila K-S who both had fantastic games, creating numerous opportunities to level the score.

With just 4 minutes remaining in the game, our relentless pressure paid off when BBHS scored the equalizer, bringing new energy to our team. In extra time, we struck again, scoring the winning goal!

With this hard-fought victory over Xavier Catholic College, the girls now advance into the 2nd round of the tournament. A huge congratulations to all the girls involved for their dedication and teamwork.

Our Under 15s Boys Soccer Football team have begun their 2025 knockout run with a hard fought win over Xavier Catholic College, 1-0 last week.

This was a game that could have gone either way, with both teams carving out a number of strong chances that were foiled by some excellent goalkeeping from both teams.

It was a beautiful cross from Trystam that found Ace’s head for the one and only goal of the game. Thanks to Xavier Catholic College for a really great game and for the outstanding sportsmanship from all of the players.

Overall it was a great start to the campaign for our boys from Byron Bay, and we look forward to our Round 2 game next term.

NSW Parliament Public Speaking Competition

Hannah C represents BBHS in Grafton

On Thursday 3 April, Year 10 student Hannah C participated in a public speaking competition hosted by the Parliament of NSW. Hannah prepared a 6 minute speech in response to Dylan Thomas' poem, 'Do not Go Gentle into that Good Night'.

Eighteen students presented impassioned speeches arguing for education equity, feminism, climate change and mental health, reflecting genuine understanding of socio and enviro-politics.

Hannah was inspired by the experience and enjoyed reconnecting with fellow debaters and public speakers from private and public schools across the region, from Dorrigo to the Tweed.

She received personal feedback from the parliamentary adjudicator, which will build upon her evolving skills. Hannah does our school proud every time she represents Byron Bay High School.
