Aldavilla Primary School Together We Learn and Achieve

Principal's Message

Lower North Coast Dance Festival was held in Week 8. Students performed at the Glasshouse for a packed audience. Our Stage 3 students performed ‘Firefighters’ a hip-hop routine that ignited the stage. The Stage 1 dance ‘Fairies’ was selected to perform in the Showcase. The standard of both dances was exceptional and we thank Miss Katie, Mrs Dean and Mr O’Brien for supporting both these groups.

Students had a wonderful day at the Athletics Carnival with perfect weather. Students excelled in both track and field events, with many students progressing to the Macleay Carnival. A huge thank you to the P & C for running the canteen and BBQ. It was a pleasure to have so many parents and extended family members supporting students.

Riley F has been excelling across many sports. Most recently he achieved 10th place at the North Coast Cross Country. Riley has also been selected for the North Coast Soccer Team and will compete at the state championships later this year. We are super proud of your effort Riley.

Congratulations to Noah C who has been selected for the North Coast Rugby Union team and will compete at the state championship in August.

Sonny S recently competed in Sweden and placed 4th in the World for his age at the International Speedway SPG 4. To be so young and achieving such success is outstanding.

Students recently performed at the local Kempsey Eisteddfod in Speech and Drama. Our two choral speaking groups were placed 1st. Many of our students excelled in public speaking, verse, prose and drama, receiving places and awards. Our students demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, congratulating their fellow competitors.

Have a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to students returning on Tuesday 23 July.

If your child is sick at home

From time to time your child may get sick. If they display any of the following symptoms, they should stay at home and see a doctor:

• a fever of 38°C or above

• vomiting or diarrhoea

• cough or respiratory symptoms

• cold or flu symptoms

• rashes of an unknown origin.

Attendance

Whilst we encourage you to keep your child home if they are unwell, it is important to remember the impact of absences. If your child is well, they need to attend school every day. Try to keep family holidays outside of school terms and appointments where possible before or after school.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

The Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition encourages primary school students to explore multiculturalism in Australia while they practise their public speaking skills and improve their confidence. Every year around 2,000 students are chosen to represent their schools in the local finals. This year, Isabelle D and Nevaeh S represented Aldavilla PS at our local final at Beechwood Public School.

The competition has two equally weighted sections. The first is a 4-minute prepared speech on a multicultural topic, followed by a 2-minute impromptu speech on a topic provided to students just 5 minutes in advance!

Nevaeh’s heartfelt prepared speech ‘Learning from the Past’ was about the impact of The Stolen Generations. Isabelle’s speech, ‘Live Together, Play Together’, explored ways in which society has been enriched through cultural diversity. Neveah placed second in this regional final. Congratulations to both girls. We are so proud of you!

Soccer Knockout

𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 to our boys and girls soccer knockout teams who played last week. Our girls defeated Frederickton 10-0 and displayed courage in a 3-1 loss to Kempsey West. APS is incredibly proud of your efforts. The boys will take on Crescent Head PS on Thursday after coming away with strong wins over Frederickton and Kempsey West. Good luck boys!

PSSA Classic Shield Rugby League Knockout

On June 11, it was a mixed day for our boys at the PSSA Classic Shield Rugby League Knockout. We lost our first game against Kempsey West PS, meaning we were knocked out of the main draw. We then played a consolation game against Tacking Point PS, where we came away as winners.

Congratulations to all players on the way they represented our school.

PSSA Touch Football Knockout Competition

Our touch football teams played their opening game of the PSSA Knock Out competition on Wednesday 5 June.

The boys won both their games against South West Rocks and Kempsey East and will move on to Round 3 of the competition. Unfortunately, the girls were knocked out by South West Rocks.

North Coast Rugby Trials

Well done to Jonny, Noah, Thomas, Sonny-John and Riley for representing LNC at the NC Rugby trials in Grafton on 6 June.

Noah was selected in the team and will represent NC at the State Championships in Wagga Wagga in August. Thomas was also selected as an emergency player.

Australia Rugby Union Visit

Stage 3 had the privilege of meeting some former and current Australia Rugby Union players. They participated in a coaching clinic and learnt a variety of skills before being presented a signed jersey from the 2023 international team.

Riley F

We would like to congratulate Riley F on an outstanding fortnight of representative sport. Riley achieved 10ᵗʰ place at the highly competitive North Coast Cross Country event. To top it off, he travelled to Coffs Harbour and was selected for the North Coast Soccer team. Riley will now compete in the state championships at Tamworth in late August. Champion effort, Riley!
