Home Away from Home

This photo shows the hidden truth behind trucking, a Coca-Cola bottle, sugar fuelled drinks to keep the drivers going, which turns into a bottle of ‘driver tizer’ through the night, as often the toilets can be a fair walk away from the cab.

Judges' remarks - This well captured photo shows the realities of life on the road – a bottle of ‘Driver Tizer’ in the foreground and a truck stop in the background. The need for sugar to keep drivers going, and the unavailability of toilets is nicely represented.

The sun was rising and I had already been at work for 4 hours! I don’t think any words are needed! You have to find beauty in the moment to understand why you do what you do 🙂

Sometimes jobs further afield require you to stay out overnight in the truck. Whilst initially apprehensive about this, I actually really enjoy shutting myself away in the cab for the evening, it feels quite snug and safe. I just make sure to have some warm bedding and a good pair of thick socks! Most of the time I also have my dog for company, which makes me feel extra safe.

I like going running or walking when parked up, been doing it for over 12 years.

Having all my family and friends photos about my head on the bunk means I get to see them every day no matter how far from them I may be and also my pillow my partner got me means I can hug her of a night until I get home.

Never get a cream cab too much hard work to keep clean

Things are a lot different now from what they were when my dad was trucking during the 80's & 90's. Now, when I get parked up, I can get onto xbox live and have a game with my kids. My youngest finds it the hardest when I leave for work on a Saturday, so I make a special effort to get online and see how he is doing. My daughter has finished school and in college, so she can be up gaming late at night, so it's always good to get talking to her too (normally we only manage a grunt and "what's for dinner" in the house)
