Work-Based Learning
Welcome to the SUHSD, WBL Newsletter, Volume 7
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR:
On May 23rd, 35+ community members and students came together to celebrate the amazing progress that has been made on Redwood High School's Greenhouse Project. Halfway through this 2-year project, we thanked all of the local businesses that have donated time and materials to this project, as well as congratulated the students and teacher, Jim Bender, for all that they have accomplished. This is Career Technical Education!
This is just one of the many examples of work-based learning (WBL) that showcases students, teachers, and community members coming together in new and innovative ways. In this issue, you will see:
- Student Work
- Guest Speakers
- Symposiums
- Field Trips
- Career Fairs

College & Career Fairs
Many of the students in our Career Technical Education (CTE) classes receive dual enrollment for their work at both the high school and the community college. For these students, we took them to the college where they receive this credit and offered them a full college and career day, that included:
- Pathway experience--to share what comes next in the educational pathway they have been enrolled in.
- Campus tour-to showcase the amazing educational facility that are available in our county.
- Mock interviews with the nearly 150 volunteers across all 3 events, each student had the opportunity to interview with 2 professionals.
April 2, 2024 -- Cañada College, included Carlmont's marketing students, Woodside's engineering students, and Menlo Atherton's animation students. (Pictured Left)
April 23, 2024 -- Foothill College, including Menlo Atherton's Computer Academy, Sequoia's Digital Arts Academy, TIDE Academy juniors, and Woodside's Graphic & Tech Academy students.
April 24, 2024 -- Skyline College, including culinary students throughout the district, Sequoia's Health Careers Academy students, and Menlo Atherton's film students.
Foothill College -- Mock Interviews held in the campus dining room. It was a pleasure to see students visibly improve and sit up taller with confidence as they proceeded through 2 interviews. Most volunteers agree, "It's an easy and fun volunteer opportunity for anyone who has interviewed for a job before."
