Literacy Week Activities

The Cinnabar staff is thrilled to announce Literacy Week festivities! They've been involved in Buddy Book Building, book battles, dressing up as their favorite book characters, and a variety of other engaging reading activities and challenges throughout this week. Ready, Set, Learn

The next Ready, Set, Learn event in Nanaimo is on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 5-6:30pm at Chase River Elementary. This free drop-in program is for families with children ages 3-5 years. Join us for pizza and play-based activities. Registration is not required.

ELL Students Enjoying Winter Sports

NDSS ELL Teacher Liz Betteridge applied for an After School Sports and Arts Initiative (ASSAI) grant and was approved. The ASSAI grant was used to take a number of ELL students skiing and skating.

Healthy Start to Learning

Families with children from newborn to eight years old are invited to the Healthy Start to Learning event in Ladysmith on Thursday, February 22, 2024. NLPS’ Early Years Team works with educators, childcare providers, and community partners to provide early learning opportunities for families and young children. Through partnerships, we strengthen the connection between home and school, including supporting the transition to Kindergarten. Drop by to see the many resources and supports available for families.

XploreSportZ Program

PacificSport hosts XploreSportZ program in Ladysmith from February 7 until March 6, 2024 from 3-4:30pm in the Frank Jameson Community Centre. Students ages 6 to 12 years are invited.

PacificSport VI’s XploreSportZ program introduces kids to FUNdamental sport skill development through discovery and play. Qualified coaches and leaders deliver sport basics and help children celebrate physical activity – this program is meant as an introduction to sport and is a non-competitive environment.

Coaches will provide accommodations for all experience levels so participants can learn and develop skills based on their own starting point. Each of the sessions will feature a different sport; some traditional such as soccer, or unique such as Tae Kwon Do or tumbling. Final sport schedule to be determined. All equipment will be provided.

bgc Central Vancouver Island Offers Youth Programs

bgc Central Vancouver Island offers a 10-week program introducing sports and wellness activities each week. They also host a drop-in teen space where youth can get homework help, career exploration assistance and mental health support. To find out more, visit their website.
