Tuesday’s City Council Workshop

We will begin our meeting on Tuesday with an overview of the Colorado Creative Industries (CCI), with Josh Blanchard (the Executive Director of CCI) and Brandon Stam of Downtown Grand Junction. Downtown Grand Junction is also a Colorado Creative District, so we invited Brandon to provide their experience as well. After that, Planning and Development will share an overview of a series of Land-Use-Code amendments that will be going through the public hearing process. See you all on Tuesday night!

Weekly FAQ

WEEKLY FAQ

Every week we will be answering one question we get asked often from the community. These questions will cover a variety of topics from all city departments. If you have any questions you think would be valuable for us to share, let us know by emailing communications@fruita.org.

  • Question: Can I sign up for auto pay for my utility bills?
  • Answer: Yes! The City of Fruita offers auto pay for all your utility bills. Visit the utility billing webpage to find the form to sign up. Residents can also pay their utility bills online, in-person, or by mail.
General Updates
  • 19 Road Open House Recap. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the open house for the 19 Road Improvement Project on Wednesday night. We had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with multiple residents, had great conversations, and received feedback about the project. Stay updated on this project by visiting fruita.org/19road.
  • Tour of Grand Junction High School. On Thursday, Councilor Purser and I had the opportunity to join District 51 and other local partners in touring the new Grand Junction High School. The high school looks amazing and will help support students for many years. Thank you to D51 for inviting us on the tour!
  • Community Engagement Event with City Manager. We had a small crowd at our community engagement event last night, but we still had a wonderful time with residents. The next community engagement event is on Wednesday, August 14 at 8:00 a.m. outside at Bestslope Coffee.

PARKS AND RECREATION

  • Community Center Facility Update. The FCC recently implemented disinfecting wipes in all fitness areas. This effective cleaning solution offers a convenient and versatile method to quickly cleanse weight and cardio machines. Additionally, these pre-moistened wipes are a preferable alternative to chemical spray that mists in the air.
  • Community Center Facility Maintenance. Facility Maintenance Staff are working on several projects, including drinking fountains, cardio machines, and basketball hoops.
  • Fruita Community Center Aquatics updates. We are approaching our last two weeks of summer swim lessons starting on Monday, July 22. We have our inaugural Neon Night on Friday, July 19 from 7:00-9:00 PM, that is for all ages in our outdoor pool.

  • CDL Training. Congratulations to Lynn Reynolds for successfully completing his CDL training.
  • Western Colorado Contractors Association. The Public Works Director participated in a virtual meeting with the Western Colorado Contractors Association (WCCA) to review results from a Procurement Survey. In recent years, project owners have been claiming there are few or no contractor bids on public project opportunities. WCCA wants to help project owners understand why there are few or no bids on certain projects and how we can use the information to create better opportunities and create better collaboration between public entities and the construction community. 940 surveys were sent out to WCCA members with 45 responses. Read more information about the survey and the results.
