988 Hotline Poster
Our goal producing this was to organize important information about the 988 suicide prevention hotline into a poster. I used current design trends to make a smooth and informative piece while also familiarizing myself with techniques in Photoshop. I feel like the poster came out well, and the information makes it more blatantly meaningful than some of my other pieces. My only grievance is that I could have chosen my colors a little better. I hope that the audience picks up on the information presented and that it sticks with them should they ever need it.
Love Letter
For this project, I created a poster in the style of Tim Marrs, an artist well-known for producing loud and colorful art pieces. My goal was to put imagery to how it feels to be without a partner, whether in love or in something less deep and profound. In other words, I wanted to convey loneliness. I feel very proud of how this piece turned out--it’s pleasing to the eye, the colors and composition are nice, and it has just the kind of feel I wanted it to have. I hope the audience can feel at least a little bit of my passion for connection and joy found with other people through this piece.
Childhood
I made this in an attempt to mimic the style of Shepard Fairey, another well-known artist who has been making influential street art since the 80’s. I wanted to convey either the notion that we never quite let go of our childhood, or that we shouldn’t. As we grow, we turn our sights towards bigger, grander things, and it is harder to find happiness than when we were children. I feel conflicted about this piece because, while it looks nice visually, I worry that my message became muddled somewhere along the way. My wish is for the audience to understand that joy doesn’t have to come from massive stories of success and fame--it can be derived from the little, simple things that give life its flavor.
Simple Joy
This poster changed pace and utilized typography instead of imagery, so I chose a section from the song “Hazel” by Cavetown. I liked this song because it reminds me that love for the world and the lives we live can be found anywhere, even in something as simple as muted headlights passing through a bedroom at night. The ultimate purpose of this piece was to stress this idea. I take pride in the composition of this piece and the techniques I was able to use to add flair to each word, though I wonder if it will flow as nicely for people who haven’t heard the source material. The audience should hopefully glean a sense of nostalgia and peace from this piece.
