Back to 'In the beginning' for Prep 3

Prep 3 have been learning about the beginning of time with their topic ‘In the Beginning’. Recently they have started to look at prehistoric Britain with the Stone Age. This week in Humanities they have started to look at cave art, which they then had to have a go at recreating their own! Prep 3 did so well using limited paint colours and no paintbrushes, just their fingers and sticks, just like the Stone Age people would’ve had too!

Grandparents Toy Workshop

Prep 1 children were treated to a very special afternoon on Friday with many of their grandparents sharing toys from their childhoods. There were clockwork cars, babushka nesting dolls, a spirograph set, dolls, teddies and much more, as well as photographs and stories to accompany them. It was magical to see the children enjoy playing with the toys and listening so intently. Grandparents commented on the children’s interesting questions and astute observations, as well as their excellent manners. A lovely, lovely afternoon – thank you so much to all the lovely grandparents who came along!

Plantober

This month we’re taking part in ‘Plantober’ – a national campaign to grow trees from seeds.

We’re encouraging our families to get out on a walk, collect a conker or another nut seed and plant it at home. It doesn’t require any complicated kit – just some soil in a recycled milk carton or a yogurt pot with some holes in the bottom for drainage. Leave it outside over the winter and then hopefully in the spring you’ll seed a new seedling starting to sprout!

The children have all been given a ‘How to’ leaflet. If you’d rather bring the pots back to school we’re happy to look after the trees and hopefully in couple of year’s time we’ll be able to plant them out nearby.

Please remember to a share a photo of your tree planting with #plantober

Thank you and have fun!
