Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers, It is pleasing to report that many of our pupils have come back to school, after the half term break, in a very positive way; eager to reengage in learning opportunities and take full advantage of the excellent curriculum provision here at St John Vianney. The generally positive behaviour and attitudes around school this week have helped CYP get quickly used to school routines again. We have however, had some challenging behaviour to manage from a very small group of pupils, who have now a clear understanding that we will not tolerate abusive and offensive language to staff or pupils who wish to spoil learning opportunities that other pupils are participating in. Parents have been informed and pupils have been given appropriate consequences and will continue to do so when the choices they deliberately make are unacceptable. Thank you to the parents we have contacted for the support they have provided in dealing with these matters. Lent started last week and pupils have been supported in engaging with increased prayer opportunities, fasting and fundraising activities to support our Catholic Lenten pledges. The pupils are always wonderful in supporting others in our communities and we will undertaking a range of activities to help pupils grasp the importance of Lent in the build-up to the celebrations of Easter. Pupils are looking at how they can raise funds for CAFOD through their world gifts initiative (further information can be found at https://worldgifts.cafod.org.uk/collections/frontpage). The new building is progressing well and we will be taking over the full site during the 2026 summer holidays. There is certainly a lot to do, but we are certainly looking forward to the time when we will no longer be part of a building site and the challenges this provides us, as a school community, on a daily basis. Another key date for your diary is the annual Parents Evening, which will take place on Tuesday 24th March 2026 at 4.30pm to 6pm. Please make a note of the date and time of this really important event, where you will have an opportunity to meet with teachers and class teams to discuss the progress made by your child and to look through the work that they have been undertaking this year. We are planning to have interim school reports ready for the week before the parents evening. Yours sincerely, Mr A Moloney

- Do not give children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
- Do not give nuts, nut products or snacks/bars containing nuts for break time snacks.
- Do not send cakes or food items, containing nuts, in to school for birthday celebrations, cake sales or events.
Thank you for your support.

Our Catholic School
Our religious focus in SJV this week is in God's message:
"Whoever practices and teaches my commands will be considered great in the Kingdom of heaven."
- Matthew 5:19
It has been a joy to return after the break and see everyone back together, sharing stories about what’s been happening both in and out of school. I hope you all had a restful half term and are feeling refreshed and ready for the busy weeks ahead, including the exciting Key Stage 3 residential. We have had a positive and energetic start to the new half term as we begin our Lenten activities. Our 40 Acts of Kindness challenge is already underway, with staff supporting each class and ensuring there are plenty of slips available to record the many thoughtful acts taking place across SJV.
Each class is also spending time in the chapel for Si-Lent Reflection, providing a calm and reflective space to pause, pray, and strengthen their connection with God. In Religious Education, pupils have been developing ideas for their charity appeals and planning the acts of kindness they hope to carry out during Lent. It promises to be a meaningful and uplifting journey towards Easter, with our children and young people leading the way through their generosity, compassion, and commitment to doing good.

Literacy
Scholastic Book Fair – Coming Next Week! We are thrilled to announce that the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to school next week, coinciding with our World Book Day celebrations! It promises to be a fantastic week of reading, discovery, and fun for all students.
Every student will have the wonderful opportunity to browse the fair and choose a book of their very own to read — a great chance to find a new favourite story or explore a topic they love!
Please note that due to ongoing construction work at school, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate parent visits or purchases at the fair this year. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to future events once works are complete.
For more information about the pop-up book fair and to take a look at the books available please click on the following link: Scholastic Book Fair We can’t wait to see which books our readers choose. Happy reading!

Mental Health Workshop
This week, pupils across the school took part in a mental health first aid workshop, which was expertly delivered by our school nursing team. The interactive workshop provided key information, advice & support through visual displays, videos, discussions and mindfulness activities. Our school nurses covered topics that are highly relevant today, such as the effects of social media on mental health, as well as advice on where to seek support. They also provided strategies on how our children & young people can relax and regulate their emotions when faced with potential stressful or heightened situations.
