UC Berkeley was one of the VERY FIRST universities in the world to partner with Adobe and bring EQUAL ACCESS to all students.
In true Cal fashion, this idea was groundbreaking and uniquely yours.
Adobe Creative Cloud empowers every student with:
"Create an Environment of Abundance" - UC Berkeley Strategic Plan
Adobe has a new partnership with Student Affairs to drive awareness at Golden Bear Orientation:
- Four Student Graphic Designers from Student Tech Services collaborated with Adobe to design the 2019-2020 academic calendar, using Adobe tools
- The graphic designers received professional feedback on their work and were able to add the project to their portfolios
- Every single incoming Freshman student received a calendar at Golden Bear Orientation, all 10,000!
- Adobe paid for all costs, including production and printing
Creative Lab > Free Design Classes
- Creative Lab offers free digital design classes to EOP* Students and Qualifying Graduate Students
- *EOP = Equal Opportunities program-low income (Pell grant), under represented & first generation students
- This includes classes that use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro
- Trend in EOP students utilizing Adobe classes for resume building and gaining marketable skills
Faculty Workshops
- Hands-on workshops offered for faculty, including an Adobe XD workshop led by Tara Knight from the Adobe XD product team
- Faculty learn how to use the programs so they can teach their students and add more projects to UC Berkeley courses
- Student media specialists also deliver workshops for faculty in the Academic Innovation Studio
Student groups from all around the campus, including the Haas School of Business, have collaborated on research projects initiated by Adobe that have won awards and been shared with executives.
As part of our special relationship, Cal students have often been invited to the Adobe offices.
Cal TV Partnership
- Students from Cal TV were invited to attend an Adobe Employee Conference in Las Vegas in 2018
- Students from UC Berkeley, Howard and UNC Chapel Hill received hands-on training and coveted access to professional production by collaborating with the Adobe creative production team
- Students produced content that was shared on the big screen to over 10k Adobe employees, and via livestream to thousands around the world
- Student participants were able to add this professional work to their portfolios and land jobs
"Attending the Adobe conference quite literally changed the trajectory of my career. I was entrusted with creating a short documentary where I interviewed various Adobe employees and my video appeared on the big screen. In that moment, I realized my dream of being a broadcast journalist could be possible." - Marisa Umeh-Burchess, ISF: International Human Rights Law, Media, Entrepreneurship ‘22
UC Berkeley Adobe Fellows
"The Adobe projects allowed me to think about the class content more in depth. Instead of just reading from a book and writing a paper, thinking of creative ways to display my newfound knowledge was powerful and unlike any classroom experience I've had." - Chicano Studies 159 Student
The Adobe Faculty Fellows have presented to other educators and peers across the country, highlighting the success of UC Berkeley students and sharing student work:

"I use the Adobe Creative Cloud in every aspect of my college career. Without the school's subscription to Adobe, I wouldn't be able to edit photos, view textbooks on my iPad or create videos. Anecdotally, every single person I'm living with uses the Adobe Creative Cloud every single day." Adriel Tan, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science ‘22
"Having access to the Creative Cloud has given me the chance to become fluent in so many softwares that are industry standard for so many job careers. Not only is it practical to be able to make content and produce our creative projects but it makes us all more skilled applicants and creators for when we graduate." Celest D'Amore, Cal TV Entertainment Director, Media Studies '21
