Mrs Rana’s kindness watch

What a week of kindness we have had, below are just a few acts of kindness shown: Sixth formers Fadumo and Ibra for cleaning up a spillage in the corridor even though it was not their mess. Rida H for helping a teacher by offering help when she saw her hands were full. Rubina and Sehr in year 9 who have helped promote the well being club for year 7 and 8. We had a fabulous turn out due to their promotion. Yasleen D and Hira Z in year 9, who have shown their artistic and creative skills by helping redecorate the music class room with an amazing display board. Really kind gesture for the whole school to enjoy. Remember, in a world where you can be anything, be kind.

Year 9 Food Technology Practical Assessment The Food Technology brief was to cook either Vegetarian Bolognese or to re-create a Cultural Dish. There was a wide selection of dishes produced which include Fish and Chips, Lemon Cake, Chai, Creamy Garlic Spaghetti, Vegetable Kebabs and Plantain Salad. The students did a great job and showed off their cutting skills, frying skills and baking skills. Well done Food Technology Year 9s.

Celebration Assemblies!

Mrs Nelson and Year 10 had a wonderful morning celebrating recently, with pupils being congratulated for achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, Top Achievement points awards and zero Behavior points amount many more! There was so much to celebrate that we didn't hear the bell ring!

Scholastic Book Fair Update It's been lovely to see so many book enthusiasts over the last few weeks coming in to explore the Scholastic book fair! Popular books have included the inheritance games and diary of a wimpy kid (both priced at £3.99) and on the stationary side, we've discovered the students love hand pointers! This year we have also managed to fit year 9 class bookings in during the fair to allow a whole extra year group more time to book browse before buying. It’s not typically easy to do so with the fair only lasting two weeks (typically one week, but due to our rapport, they allow us an extra week when requested). Whilst the book fair is still taking place, the last day of the fair is on Monday 1st December so please make any orders by this day latest (or we cannot guarantee delivery of the book has run out!) Below is a list of the books that can be purchased and the prices they are being sold for. Happy reading!

Careers in…Art and Design

Did you know more people work in the creative industries than the finance industry! The creative industries generate £84.1 billion to the United Kingdom (UK) economy each year and employ over 2.8 million people. Unlike many industries, the creative industries have continued to grow, despite the recent financial crisis.

At Baylis we offer AQA GSCE Art & Design course. This is an unendorsed subject where you can study a range of artistic skills from drawing, painting, textiles, print, clay and photography.

How will it fit in with your other subjects? Studying art and design helps to create a broad and balanced curriculum, which is an excellent foundation for whatever you want to do afterwards. The transferable skills you’ll gain, such as creativity, analysis and problem solving, complement a range of other subjects and careers.

Where will a GCSE Art and Design take me in the future? You can continue your art and design studies at AS and A-level, where the same titles are available. You’ll also be able to choose areas of study to specialise in within a particular title. If you don’t want to take your art and design studies any further, the transferable skills you gain will still be valuable. You’ll develop problem solving, creative thinking, investigation, research, communication and teamwork skills, and gain the ability to develop, refine and present ideas. Employers and universities regard all of these highly.

Wellbeing Club with Mrs Rana and Mrs Kapoor on Thursday lunchtimes has gone from strength to strength, with pupils from years 7 and 8 enjoying a safe space to try crafts, make new friends and stay warm!

Year 9 observational drawings of shells. Well done year 9, some fabulous work!

Domestic Abuse Support App - Bright Sky by Hestia Domestic abuse, whether towards a female or male partner, can significantly affect the children who live in that environment. Exposure to violence, coercion or ongoing emotional manipulation disrupts a child’s sense of safety and can influence their behaviour, relationships and engagement in learning. These situations are often hard to spot. Many victims work to hide what is happening, particularly from official agencies, due to fear of consequences for the abusive partner or worries about major upheaval for the family. Hestia is a London-based charity that supports adults and children in crisis, delivering frontline services and campaigning nationally on issues such as domestic abuse, modern slavery and mental health. They have created the Bright Sky app, a free and discreet tool that helps people recognise signs of abuse, access specialist support and record concerns safely. The Bright Sky app provides: • A simple tool to help someone recognise signs of abuse and understand whether a relationship feels unsafe. • A secure, optional journal for recording incidents or concerns that can later be shared with a trusted person or agency. • A directory of national and local support services, making it easier to find the right help quickly.
