Welcome to The John Frost School Newsletter
Shw mae - I am delighted to welcome you to The John Frost School's Newsletter - The Frost Report, which was the name selected by students. We are delighted that students are working hard in school and especially our senior students who are preparing for their summer examinations. We take time to listen to parents and students and have been reflecting on how we can improve communication with all our stakeholders - this newsletter will provide you with regular updates on student success, events and key information. I hope you enjoy reading about all our students’ fantastic successes and the wide range of achievements within our school. Diolch,

School Events
Autumn term is always busy, starting with our Year 7 students making the transition from primary school and our Year 12 students adapting to life in the Sixth Form. Here's some of the events that took place last term.
Awards Evening
Highlight of our school year
Every September we hold our Awards Evening. We were delighted that the Leader of Newport City Council, Councillor Dimitri Batrouni and the Deputy Leader, Councillor Deb Davies, were able to attend and support the school.
Our special guest at Awards Evening was Rosie Eccles, who is a Welsh amateur boxer who won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as a host of other medals at international competitions representing both Wales and Great Britain. Rosie inspired our students with her motivational speech.
PE Sports Awards Winner 2024
Congratulations to Ryan who was our winner of the GCSE PE Award for 2024.
Many awards were presented for a variety of achievements, but the highlight of the evening were the awards presented to our Sports Woman of the Year and Sports Man of the Year.
Christmas Concert
The Christmas Concert was a delightful evening filled with festive cheer and celebration. The Performing Arts Department worked tirelessly to organise the event and we are incredibly proud of our talented students who develivered outstanding festive performances. Their dedication and skill truly made the evening memorable.
Highlights from the Christmas Fair
Friends of The John Frost School
The Christmas Fair at The John Frost School was a resounding success and a wonderful way to welcome the festive season. The Friends of The John Frost School organised an exceptional event, hosting over 30 stallholders. The main hall was beautifully decorated, creating a vibrant atmosphere where you could enjoy an array of delicious treats, diverse cuisine and unique gifts and products.
Congratulations to our student Felicity who raised close to £400 for Noah’s Ark Childrens’ Hospital charity at our Christmas Fair by selling her own Christmas cards. Felicity is an ambassador for the charity and continues to raise awareness and funds throughout the year. A special thank you to Bella and Lexi who volunteered to help with the stall.
Extra Curricular
At The John Frost School, we believe that education is wider than just timetabled lessons. We encourage all our students to engage in the wide range of extra-curricular opportunities we offer. From trips and visits, to performing arts and sports there are opportunities for our students to develop wider skills.
The John Frost School sport teams enjoyed a term of competitive fixtures with a number of successes, progression in the Newport Cup and tournament experiences.
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts department are pleased to be able to put on so many extra-curricular clubs and events. There is something for everyone to enjoy! From Year 7 Drama Club to Senior Vocal Group and Music Technology, we have many opportunities for students to expand their skill set. Miss Hague and Miss John have been so encouraged by the wide range of talent and dedication we have in The John Frost School this year and we were able to put on a fantastic Christmas Concert.
Headteacher News
Student voice is very important in our school. Following feedback from our Student Council the school invested in its buildings to improve the environment for our students, staff and community. We have just finished the installation of our new double-glazed windows in the Williams building at a cost of over £700,000. It has had a tremendous impact on the learning environment in our classrooms.
Work has started on replacing the windows at the rear of the Jones building. As a result six classrooms will see a dramatic improvement.
The John Frost School is open to our local communities in the evenings and at weekends offering a wide range of facilities for hire. This includes sports hall, astro turf, swimming pool, hall, gymnasium and room hire.
If clubs are interested in hiring any of our facilities please email Zoe Hickman at HickmanZ1@newportschools.wales
Parents’ Evenings
The Spring term is a very busy time for staff, students and parents/carers with a number of parents’ evenings. Further details will be sent out to you closer to the event. You can find details on school events on the school website under ‘Upcoming Events’ at the bottom of the Home page.
