Automating Colonoscopy asklepian RFE

Current Landscape

The incidence of colon cancer and other diseases of the gut like diverticulitis are increasing and occurring at younger ages

The cost of colonoscopy is increasing

There is an increasing global shortage of gastroenterologists

60% of the population has no access to endoscopy (5+ Billion Population)

With Surveillance 1 Million colon cancer deaths could be prevented annually

Fear of Colonic perforation – many patients refuse colonoscopy due to fear of this dreaded potential complication

Occurs in up to .8% of all endoscopic procedures

Extended hospital stays with potential multiple procedures

The majority will require surgical intervention with potential colostomy

Colonic perforation has up to a 25.6% mortality rate

ASKLEPIAN RFE

Next generation robotic and Ai Automated Colonoscopy

A simple and easy to use robotic platform could reduce the number of people in the procedure room, reducing personnel costs and increasing throughput.

Robotic precision can reduce and/or eliminate patient discomfort

  • Reduced risk of colonic perforation
  • Improved polyp detection (Ai)
  • Reduction in procedure time
  • Reduction in anesthesia
  • Increased productivity of the gastroenterologist
  • decrease air introduction into the colon
  • reduced force on the colonic walls

ASKLEPIAN is a robotic flexible endoscopy (RFE) platform that will revolutionize the performance of flexible endoscopy by employing robotics, a novel vibroacoustic sensor system, and AI to automate diagnostic colonoscopic procedures.

Our goal is to use robotics to replicate the dynamic and kinematic movements of clinicians as they perform flexible endoscopic procedures.
