Year 9 Geography Trip
On Wednesday, the Year 9 students visited the Natural History Museum to explore tectonic hazards. Unfortunately students had a shorter day there than expected, due to London traffic. Despite this, their time at the museum was packed with engaging discussions—particularly about super volcanoes, the number of daily earthquakes and the earthquake simulator, sparking great interest among the students.
Thanks to all the parents for their understanding and to the students for their remarkably positive attitude throughout the day.
Boarding Fun
Our boarders enjoyed a great weekend last week. After seeing the new Wicked film at the cinema on Friday, they crafted with Chaplain Katie, creating Christmas gifts and decorations to sell at the St Peter's Church Charity Fair on Saturday 30th November. (Please come along if you are passing. Chaplain Katie will be there from 10am to 4pm). Boarders also made their own sushi for dinner and are really enjoying cooking their own breakfasts, developing cooking skills and independence.
Year 7 Flexi Boarding Night
Upper Sixth Mentoring
Our Sixth Formers successfully trained a group of Year 5 pupils from Staplecross Primary School this week. They used roleplay scenarios, games, and interactive videos to teach mentoring skills.
The pupils were trained in how to listen and help their peers if they are sad, worried or anxious. They will be wellbeing ambassadors at their school.
Gymnastics News
Lucy in Year 10 had her gymnastics judging debut at Haberdashers' Girls School in Elstree last weekend.
Lucy recently qualified in her first course in gymnastics judging and was invited to judge on Sunday at the Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (ISGA) 2-Piece qualifier alongside the ISGA Chairman and the ISGA Head Judge. Well done Lucy!
West Kent ISSP
This week, KC students from Years 7 and 8 met up with students from the West Kent ISSP partner schools to discuss the theme for this year and agree the projects they will be working together on. This year, the theme is conservation and students were grouped together to work on exciting projects over the course of the academic year, such as reducing plastics in schools, improving outdoor spaces with more plants, encouraging wildlife through providing bird, bat and hedgehog houses.
They also heard from the Kent Wildlife Trust as to how projects like these can make a real difference to our local community. Our students' projects will then be entered into the Kent Wildlife Awards next summer. We look forward to seeing how they get on.
Year 7 Form Time
In form time, 7-James students discussed "Resilience" which was the theme of the week. They produced an idea box with strategies on how to deal with difficult situations in a resilient way, performed mini plays on different scenarios, learnt about famous artists who have shown resilience in their life and reflected back on their own ways to show resilience.
Art
Year 7
Year 7 Art students have been carrying on with their "houses" theme. Firstly, they have been investigating building facades and textures, before making wonderful little cardboard houses.
This week the students moved onto ceramic house tiles. Although it was a challenge to think in 2D and bring textures to life, a few of the students really enjoyed working with clay and being creative in a different way!
Year 10
Year 10 have been exploring using oil paint while focusing on their theme of natural form.
