Colmore Junior School

Spring term week: 24

Highlights of the week

It was an absolute delight to welcome so many of you into school this week for Year 5’s Victorian-themed performance. The children’s singing was fantastic, and their rendition of Edward Lear’s nonsense poems were excellent. It is clear how much the children have immersed themselves in their history work, and we are incredibly proud of the confidence they showed while performing for such a large audience.  A big thank you to Mrs Mapp, from Birmingham Sevices for Education Music Service, who worked with the children on getting ready for the performance. Road Safety We recently had an incident after school where a vehicle was parked so that it completely obstructed the pavement, forcing families and young children to walk out into the road to pass. This is a significant safety risk. Please be aware that the registration of the vehicle involved has been passed to the police. I urge all parents and carers to park legally and with due consideration for our neighbours and, most importantly, the safety of our pupils. Have a lovely weekend

3C made the most of the sunshine this week by exploring how they could use the hoops in their active minutes session. Some great team work here!

Year 5 performed beautifully this week in front of a packed crowd of parents and carers. They sang a number of songs linked to our history topic on the Victorians as well as sharing some poetry from Edward Lear. Each class learned a poem by heart and created some fantastic art work inspired by the nonsense poems. We were also delighted to share music from a group of violinists and recorders who shared Calico Pie. Massive thanks to Mrs Mapp who, as always, who worked so hard with the children.

3C have been working hard to test the strength of different magnets using paper clips. They found some interesting results.

6F have been carrying out scavengar hunts to help them with their geography and grammar understanding. They worked well in their groups to find the clues and supported each other to work out the answers too!

Mrs. Mallard took a group of Year 3 children to a multisports event this week. She was very impressed by their team work and resilience when taking part in the activities and a good time was had by all!

Lunch Pre‑Ordering Reminder

We have introduced a new system in school to help us manage children’s lunches more efficiently. To support this, all meals must now be pre‑ordered on ParentPay. If you are unable to place an order or need help using the system, please visit the school office and a member of the team will be happy to guide you through the process. Pre‑ordering ensures the kitchen can plan accurately, order the correct amount of food, and reduce unnecessary waste. Thank you for your continued support.

We are very excited to announce that the poet and author Joseph Coelho will be visiting school on Friday 17th April. He was children laureate a few years ago and thanks to our links with the wonderful book shop, How Brave is the Wren, he will be coming to school to sign books and share his latest work with the whole school. If you want to find out more about him then please take a look at his website. There will be a link coming out soon for parents to order copies of his books.

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
