Director's Note
There’s something incredibly special about Newsies—a story of grit, heart, and the unstoppable power of young voices. From the original 1992 Disney film to the 2012 Broadway production - Newsies reminds us that ordinary kids can rise up, stand together, and spark real change.
Bringing Newsies to the High Point Theatre stage has been a joyful and deeply rewarding journey. Working with this talented and passionate cast has been an absolute gift. Watching them dive into the world of 1899 New York, bring these characters to life, and embody the spirit of unity and resilience has been nothing short of inspiring. Their dedication, energy, and talent have reminded me every day why I love this work.
At its core, Newsies is about the courage to speak up, the strength of community, and the belief that everyone—no matter their age or background—has the power to make a difference. These are themes that resonate far beyond the stage.
And of course, we can’t talk about Newsies without talking about Alan Menken’s unforgettable score. From the anthemic “Seize the Day” to the heart-pounding “Carrying the Banner” and the emotional pull of “Santa Fe,” each song is crafted with power and purpose. Menken’s music doesn’t just move the story forward—it moves us.
Thank you for supporting live theatre, High Point Community Theatre, and for being part of the Newsies experience. We hope this production inspires you the way it has inspired all of us.
Now is the time to seize the day!
Special Thanks
