World Teacher's Day
Celebrating the dedication of our teachers this World Teachers’ Day
This Friday 31 October, we celebrate the dedication and passion of all the incredible teachers worldwide who make a difference every day. We especially honour the amazing educators at Byron Bay High School — your commitment, care, and support inspire and empower our students to grow and succeed.
You are the heart of our school community, shaping futures with every lesson, every smile, and every encouraging word.
Thank you for all that you do!
End of year excursions and events
It's a very busy time of year on our school calendar
We are in the process of planning many important and exciting end-of-year activities and events for our students. Please refer to the 'Important dates for your diary' section above for a list of the events coming up. Consent and payment emails for many of these events have already been sent out to parents and carers, with more to go out over the next week.
We urge you to keep a regular eye on your email inbox as we'd hate for your child to miss out on these opportunities.
Remember to action your consent and payment for events by the due date. We have a lot of work to do behind the scenes organising buses, staffing, medical requirements and liaising with external companies, and sometimes it is just not possible for us to squeeze in late students once the details have been finalised and paid for. It is important to know that some events also have limited spots available.
We understand that families are also very busy during this time, and we appreciate your assistance in actioning your online forms on time.

Our futsal teams shine at the North Coast Championships
Last term, both our Under 14 Girls and Under 16 Boys Futsal teams were crowned Far North Coast Champions, and progressed on to the next level in Coffs Harbour to compete against the top schools in the North Coast region.
Our Under 14 Girls team put on a spirited performance in their semi-final, narrowly going down 3–2 in a hard-fought match. Regrouping with determination, they stormed home to win their 3rd place playoff and took out a 5–1 win!
We must make specific mention to our rising star Senna H, who continues to impress with a broad range of soccer and futsal skills.
It was fantastic to see the girls combining fancy footwork with growing chemistry on the court. Several players impressed selectors and have been invited to attend a talent identification program in Sydney early next year — a wonderful achievement! Congratulations, girls on your 3rd place overall.
The Under 16 Boys team entered the championship missing half their original squad, but with a last-minute call-out, we fielded a team of legends who all rallied together. Led strongly by School Captain Zelko and defensive anchor Jethro, the boys gave it a red-hot crack, falling 5–3 in a fast semi-final against a skilful Alstonville High School side.
Shaking off the disappointment, they combined agile movement and slick ball skills from Luan, Ace, Jools, and Hamish to defeat Port Macquarie High School, 4–3 in an exciting and sportsmanlike contest to finish in 3rd place overall.
We also extend our thanks to Jethro and Zelko for their outstanding contribution to futsal throughout their time at Byron Bay High School. This was their final year of eligibility, and their leadership and sportsmanship will be missed.
Well done to both teams — you continue to make our school proud!

Year 10 Elective History
A journey through time
Our HSIE Faculty is delighted to share some incredible work our Year 10 students have recently completed for their 'Anatomy and Autopsy Report' project. In this assignment, students explored the history and complexity of ancient civilisations. They worked in groups to create a comprehensive 'Anatomy' of their chosen civilisation, highlighting key aspects such as culture, governance, and achievements. Students then conducted an “Autopsy,” analysing the factors that led to the civilisation's downfall or collapse.
The creativity and critical thinking demonstrated by the students was outstanding.
Each group provided thoughtful insights and showed an impressive grasp of the rise and fall of complex societies. Many students skillfully linked historical events with broader themes, such as leadership, environmental challenges, and internal conflicts, to draw conclusions about why civilisations ultimately declined.
Projects like these allow students to apply their knowledge in a hands-on way, encouraging both collaboration and a deeper understanding of history. Please join us in celebrating their remarkable work on this project.

Army Open Day for anyone interested in a career in the ADF
41 RNSWR, our local Army Reserve unit is having a Community Open Day on Saturday 8 November.

Part time careers are tax exempt and the basic pay rate for a Reserve Recruit rate is $160 per day tax exempt. Not bad for someone who is 17 years old! Serve a minimum of 20 days per year locally while completing your tertiary studies or having a gap year to decide your future.
All of the emergency services - NSW Police, NSW Fire & Rescue, NSW Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service - will also have stands and representatives present on the day to discuss career options.
For the younger students the Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets will have stands and displays with an inflatable obstacle course to test your agility.
And, what is a community event without a sausage sizzle, hot chips, cold drinks and a coffee van!

Are you ready for the new Social Media Age Restrictions?
From 10 December 2025, Australian law changes the rules for anyone under 16 using social media
CTRL SHFT has provided a downloadable, short, student-friendly guide explains exactly what’s happening, why it matters, and what you can do right now to protect your content and your digital rights. This guide helps students, parents, and educators understand the new national minimum-age requirements for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube, and X (Twitter) and more.
It breaks down the law in plain language no jargon, no fear, just facts.
Students will learn:
- Which platforms are affected and why accounts will be removed for under-16s.
- How age-verification and facial-age estimation work (and what their privacy options are).
- The difference between deletion and deactivation.
- How to download and keep photos, videos, and messages before accounts disappear.
- How to challenge a wrong age decision or report a platform that isn’t following the rules.
- Their ongoing rights to privacy, safety, and respect online.
Give your child the knowledge and confidence to navigate the new law safely. Download, print, or share the guide and help make the online world fairer, safer, and easier to understand:
