Dear parents and carers,

This week has been full of community spirit and belonging. The PTA delivered the Mother’s Day gift bags which are just LOVELY. Mother’s Day is a day where we all have a chance to thank and reflect on the ones who are like mothers to us.

This week, Tiny Tiddlers was unable to have their weekly session here at Darlinghurst but with determination and generosity the group still managed to meet and hold their annual bake off! Helen hosted the event and the families got together in the garden for a sunny and playful session. I popped round to visit and received a very warm welcome and a little bit of cake! The winners of the bake-off were Chloe and Sammy- Jo for their sausage rolls and fudge.

Tiny Tiddlers was a venture that we undertook a couple of years ago and Miss Wise and Miss Nixon have given their time and devotion. The parents and carers have regularly attended and are now friends for life. Every newcomer is welcomed and part of the group within seconds. Birthdays are celebrated, moments of sadness commiserated and everyone pulls together. Yesterday was a prime example of this.

Children have also loved spending time together this week, playing in the Spring sunshine. Our play leaders have been introducing some new games to children with activities to play and traditional games. The playground has been mapped with new zones for children to play - with active zones, quiet zones, climbing zones, games and many more. The Play Village in Key Stage 1 has been open with drawing, games, dress up and role play, Lego, and outdoor learning. The mud kitchen and potting area was a hit!

If you have any garden toys or a paddling pool that you are able to donate, they would be very much welcomed. You would be surprised how an unwanted paddling pool could become a space to play - a reading pool, a dinosaur swamp. As summer approaches, don’t forget us if you have a clear out. It could soon be full of cushions, books or dinosaurs!

We continue to develop out outside spaces so that children can play with their PALS.

This week the Hungry Cupboard is heaving with contributions to feed those in need. Year 3 have been donating items, and the cupboard is full and its contents will be collected by St Vincent’s charity. Thank you again for your generosity.

Our children learn about acts of kindness and other attributes through our rainbow words. This week we have seen many in action.

As always, enjoy your family time together.

Polite reminders

Thank you to those parents who continue to park considerately and safely each morning and afternoon.

We encourage families to walk to school wherever possible and politely request that parents and visitors to the academy, park in surrounding roads with thought and consideration for the children, other adults and the local community. Please follow the restrictions and road markings that are in place within the highway code. Please do not block our neighbours driveways.

Please do not drive in the academy grounds if the gates or barriers are open at any time. This should also be observed after school hours during collection from Little Mariners or an after-school club. Parents that have permission for parking are known to staff. Other vehicles are not to use the site.

The safety of the children is our priority, and this includes their journey to and from the academy.

Drop off and pick up are busy times. Please be reminded that children should stay with their parents and carers until the gates open in the morning and should be supervised at all times. Children should not be in either the front of side car parks and should remain on the footpath. Bikes and scooters are not permitted to be used once on the academy grounds.

We appreciate your support in both these matters.

Eco

It has been a busy week! On Sunday, we organised a community litter pick at Chalkwell Beach as part of the Great Big School Clean. 37 volunteers helped pick 8 sacks of rubbish. The most unusual find, found by Albie and Freddie was an old coal shovel! A huge thank you to everyone who helped clean up our local area and prevented the litter from entering the sea.

On Monday, our Eco Committee delivered an assembly to all the children about what they have been working on this year. This included re-launching or teracycle recycling scheme (please see posters below for what can be dropped off at the office) and sharing our school’s Eco Code. The children confidently shared their ideas and had created the PowerPoint presentation themselves. Well done to our active citizens!

PE

Wow, what a busy term we have had when it has come to all things sport!

Our academy has been involved with an amazing 16 competitions and festivals this term with sports squads being involved with numerous events including Football, Hockey, Bowling, Multi-Sports, Tri-Golf, Dragonball, Dodgeball, Speed Stacks and Sports Hall Athletics! Our children love to compete and always do so with respect for their opponents and officials, demonstrating many of our school values along the way.

In all of these events we have had success, establishing our place in the top 5 schools in the borough. A special mention has to go to our bowling team……. yes, we have a bowling team, who competed in a national event last week and going up against 148 schools from around the country. Also, our year 1 & 2 boys football team who finished in the top 4 in their event, the highest we have ever come in a boys football competition! Please take a look at our Instagram account to see our sports events post on all of these wonderful events.

Clubs

Please be reminded that clubs for this term have now finished. Please ensure your child is collected at normal time next week.

A new timetable and details of how to book your child a place on a club for the summer term will be shared next week.

Celebrating Together – Friday 4th April 1:15pm to 2.00pm

This is a wonderful way to end the Spring Term by celebrating your child’s work with them. Please come to your child’s class on the last day of term to share books and reflect on the learning experiences your child has had so far this year.

Tea & Talk

Thank you to those parents that joined Mrs Richards on Wednesday to learn more about the Year 1 phonics assessments. We hope that it provided you with the information you need to help your child at home to prepare for them. We will be holding another session after Easter for those parents who were unable to join us. A date will be confirmed shortly.

Mrs Hahn will be holding an information evening ahead of the Year 6 SATs on Thursday 3rd April at 5.30pm. In this session, Mrs Hahn will be sharing revision materials and guides to use with your child in preparing for the SATS. We look forward to seeing you there.
