Reading Girls' School newsletter - 19 APRIL 2024

Principal's message:

What a start to the new term. The first school musical, for a number of years, took place on Thursday evening - The Addams Family. We have Ms Connolly, Ms Maley, Mr Fazio and Mr Marry to thank for an outstanding production in directing and producing such a great musical. The girls did themselves exceptionally proud and showed off amongst the very best talent that the school has to offer, when it comes to Performing Art. Students were not only involved in the acting, singing and dancing, but also led on lighting and sound, as well as props. I wish to thank everyone who supported making this happen. It brought a great deal of laughter and enjoyment during the night. I very much look forward to our next year's production and it would be excellent to see more parents and students attending.

Thank you to all the parents who supported us by attending last night.

On a different matter, can I remind all parents that we have a very clear uniform policy which is found on our school website. Can you please remind your daughters that they are to wear a light jacket/coat and that hoodies are not allowed, as well as jewellery, and will be confiscated. We cannot be held responsible for the loss of these items should they be confiscated.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

Marika Farrugia, Principal

Personal Development Days

The Personal Development Days have been continuing with Years Ys, 9s and 10s all having events in March to inform students about the world around them. It has been fabulous having visitors from the University of Reading, the Museum of English Rural Life, and Igniting Writing helping students develop their skills and ideas. Brighter Futures for Children, the School Nursing team, the Samaritans and HealthReach ran workshops about healthy lifestyles, mental health and relationships. The Year 7s also considered personal safety with the RNLI and Network Rail talking about water and railway safety.

BAE STEM Roadshow

The year 7s and year 8s had a STEM roadshow funded by BAE, the Royal Navy and the RAF on the subject of electricity. Students saw and took part in experiments about how electricity works, which reinforced what they have been learning in science. The presentation was interactive, engaging and fun. The students enjoyed the roadshow, particularly when a member of staff powered a windmill with cycle power!
