SCAOHN NEWS QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER WINTER 2024

WINTER 2024 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Happy New Year, SCAOHN!

First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. Your tireless efforts in protecting the health and well-being of our South Carolina workforce reflect the honorable values of our profession. Whether it is providing proactive health assessments, promoting prevention and wellness, or addressing workplace hazards, your work has a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and the families they go home to each day. You and your work truly matter! Never let anyone make you think or feel otherwise!

As we make our way into 2024, it is imperative that we recognize and tackle the emerging occupational health challenges that lie ahead. Mental health issues, musculoskeletal disorders, and workplace violence are just a few areas that require attention and dedication. Together, we must keep our finger on the pulse and proactively advocate for safer and healthier working conditions. We must continually update our knowledge and skills, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and organizations to ensure evidence-based practices are applied in our field.

I also encourage each of you to seize this opportunity to be a voice for change. Take advantage of the resources and networking opportunities provided by our organization to develop professionally and to connect with like-minded individuals who share our passion for improving occupational health. The first opportunity you have will be at our Spring Educational Conference in Columbia, SC on Friday, April 26, 2024. We are finalizing those speakers now based on our last educational needs survey and will open registration soon! We hope to see each of you there. Speaking of needs survey, be on the lookout for the 2024 edition in the time ahead. Beverly is working hard to get it ready for us! This survey helps us plan practical and desired content for our educational conferences each Spring and Fall.

In closing, I am humbled by the dedication and unwavering commitment demonstrated by our members. I am honored to serve as your president and am confident that together, we will continue to advance the field of occupational health nursing for the betterment of individuals, workplaces, and South Carolina as a whole!

Thank you for the incredible work you do. Let us remain united in our mission to create safer, healthier, and more fulfilling work environments for all.

With Gratitude,

Ashley Atchley
