Eckerd's Rally Falls Short Against Barry on Senior Day
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tritons rallied from a 19-point deficit in the first half to take a lead midway through the second half. However, Barry pushed ahead in the final minutes as the Eckerd men's basketball team fell 90-87 on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.
The teams swapped leads early in the first half, knotted up at 14-14. However, the Buccaneers went on a 12-0 run to take a 26-14 favor at the 10:00 mark. BU went on an 11-2 run to take a 19-point lead at the 5:00 mark. Eckerd cut its deficit to 13 a few minutes later, but Barry took a 52-33 advantage at halftime.
Eckerd started the second half strong with nine straight points to start the frame while keeping Barry off the board for five minutes. A minute later, the Tritons answered with a 17-4 run to take a 64-62 favor at the 9:19 mark. The teams swapped baskets until BU went on an 11-2 run to take a seven-point advantage with 4:43 left. A Kent Garard triple with 3:17 cut the deficit to three, but the Buccaneers quickly pushed back out to seven. Eckerd once again cut its deficit to three on a three-point play by Timothy Thompson with 39 seconds left. However, Barry made a layup on the next basket to seal the win.
