Dear University Community,
- Today’s the day! Registration for the Spring Semester 2025 opened at 8 a.m. Details below.
- Don’t forget to vote on campus from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow at University Village. Free golf cart shuttles run from 7:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. from the Student Center to UV. Here’s more.
- This past Friday saw the presentation of the first Dia de los Muertos concert featuring the TAMIU Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi Internacional, and special guest students from the Instituto Cultural de Mexico en Laredo programs in Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi. Kudos to our faculty, Nayeli Lopez and Carlos Castañeda.
- This weekend we were honored to again host the Walk Against Alzheimer’s on campus Saturday. Team TAMIU was present and joined community members in helping to bring awareness and funding to a disease that has sadly greatly impacted our community.
- Also Saturday, our first-ever Mob Fest took place at the PEG Energy Stadium with our Men’s Soccer team besting Sul Ross State University 2 – 1. We were joined by TAMIU students, faculty, staff, and alumni for a memorable event that bears repeating. This was a great collaboration between TAMIU Athletics, TAMIU Alumni, Laredo Heat, our Student Government Association, and the Maroon Mob.
- TAMIU’s Dr. Ruvini Pathirana is the featured lecturer for the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects Fall Seminar Series on Friday at 12 noon in the Academic Innovation Center (AIC) West Lobby. Her research looks at “NSF-BRC-BIO: Polyamine Regulated Morphogenesis in Candida Albicans.”
- Also Friday, our Environmental Studies Initiative will host its first-ever Symposium, “Eyes on the Water: A Confluence of Perspectives on Water” as Life and Resource,” from 1 - 6 p.m. at the TAMIU Student Center...this is a very timely exploration after Laredo’s recent boil water experience. Learn more.
I’ll leave you with this quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt:
Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."
Have a great week!
- Juan J. Castillo, Acting President
