SENIOR RESEARCH PAPER
Seniors in ELA12 and Contemporary Communications started their research papers this month. The librarians worked with every senior every step of the way, through coming up with a research topic, to doing the research in the databases, to taking notes, and writing the paper in the proper format.
SCIENCE
Students in Mr. Ocon's Earth/Space Science classes participated in a heated debate battle in the Natural Resources Tournament. Students researched a natural resource, made a poster, and prepared a debate on why their natural resource was most valuable.
Trophies were awarded to the 1st and 2nd place finishers for each class. Congratulations to Bamboo and Solar Power for winning first place in both hours this year!
The Trophy for winner of the Egg Drop for each hour. They used the 3D printer to make part of their contraption to survive an egg drop from three drops up to 30 feet.
Close Reads
This month we had study skills classes in to work on close read strategies. We went to the Science department's PLC to talk about how we can use these strategies for reading scientific texts and to invite more classes to the library to practice these skills.
Psychology
Students in psychology classes learned about the justice system while making empathy maps. They continued their research and prepared for a guest speaker to talk about his personal experiences involved with the carceral system.
ECONOMICS
Mr. Breedlove's students worked in the library for a project on wealthy countries while keeping the name of the country hidden. Students were tasked with convincing their classmates to move to their country.
CLUB DAY - GIRLS GARAGE
Girls Garage had an amazing club day with increasing interest and participants; everyone learning and working together! The club decided to serve the community by creating a little free library for our prairie, from scratch!
The girls have been working with clamps, wood glue, screw guns, and power drills to make the body of the library and we are excited to see this project come together on club days throughout the school year! Stay tuned!
