Our Reception children recently enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Gander Farm, where they experienced life on a real working farm while bringing their learning to life through the much-loved story What the Ladybird Heard. Throughout the day, the children explored the farm and discovered how it operates, watching impressive farm machinery in action and learning about the important jobs carried out by farmers every day. They were fascinated by the wide variety of farm animals and had the opportunity to observe them up close while learning about how they are cared for. The visit also included a range of exciting activities inspired by What the Ladybird Heard, allowing the children to immerse themselves in the story while developing their understanding through hands-on experiences. Farmer Verity, Farmer Colin and their family were delighted to welcome the children and praised them for their exemplary behaviour. They commented: "The children were a joy to spend time with, and their manners were impeccable. We were really impressed how quiet and calm they were around the animals." We are incredibly proud of our Reception children for representing the school so wonderfully. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent behaviour made the day a memorable experience for everyone involved. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Farmer Verity, Farmer Colin and their family for providing such a warm welcome and an unforgettable learning experience.
Cygnets
Cygnets have started to read the book ‘Diary of a Killer Cat.’ The children have enjoyed learning all about Tuffy and we have written a newspaper report and a diary entry. In Maths we have been focusing on money and the value of the different coins and notes.
We have been busy doing lots of activities outside the classroom too such as boogie bounce, bmx, breakdancing and water safety.
Swans
This term, Swans have been working hard on their writing skills - our book for Summer term 2 is called 'The Diary of a Killer Cat', which the children are really enjoying. We have written some fabulous newspaper reports and diary entries about the wrong-doings of Tuffy, the killer cat. Fantastic effort Swans, well done!
Kingfishers
Kingfishers have enjoyed a very active term full of exciting sporting experiences. We thoroughly enjoyed our BMX and breakdancing day and our bounce workshop too.
We have worked tirelessly to understand time, a very tricky concept! In art we have immersed ourselves in our topic of drawing skills, learning how to use shape to break up out drawings into easy chunks. We have also been working on our pencil control and shading. Science has excited us as we have been learning about the human body. We can identify the bones in the human skeleton and most recently discovered that our muscles control the bones and can only contract, so must work in pairs to work at their best!
Turtles
Turtles have had an amazing term, especially with their fantastic times tables knowledge! They have worked so hard towards their test, and they were all eager and raring to go when it came to the big day. We are all so proud of their efforts and they should be too. The children have enjoyed designing, crafting and creating lots of different things in our Art and Design lessons. The children have carved soap, created clay turtles, weaved card, crafted shadow art and many more! The resilience and perseverance skills during these lessons were phenomenal. Turtles have become experts at identifying and plotting coordinates in their maths lessons. They are all absolute whizzes and have taken this topic on with such enthusiasm and eagerness - lots of aspiring mathematicians in Turtles! How lucky were Turtles children to take part in a Boogie bounce session, BMX and Break Dance classes? The room was buzzing with atmosphere for each of these and the children haven't stopped commenting about how much fun it was. We wish Turtles all the best in Year 5 and thank them for being such a fantastic and wonderful bunch to teach, we will miss them!
Sea Stars
The final summer term has got off to a fantastic start, with the children embracing a wide range of exciting opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. From performing on stage to developing new physical skills and planning culinary creations, there has been plenty to keep us busy. We have begun rehearsals for our end-of-year production. The children have embraced their roles with enthusiasm, and we are excited to see their hard work come together in the final performance. In PE, we have kept ourselves busy with a fantastic range of physical activities. From Boogie Bounce and breakdancing to BMXing and Sports Day practice, there has been no shortage of opportunities to stay active and develop new skills. Meanwhile, in DT, we have started our Come Dine With Me unit. The children have enjoyed planning a three-course meal designed to appeal to a range of tastes. Over the coming weeks we will begin working in our groups to measure, cut and prepare all ingredients to serve to our panel of judges. Looking forward to the final month of this academic year, we will be continuing the fun with a visit to Oasis Academy, a Peter Pan workshop, and a visit to the Grimsby Auditorium to watch the Peter Pan story unfold, live on stage. More details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Blue Whales
We entered our final summer term looking forward to the wide range of cross-curricular activities in store, and they did not disappoint. In DT we began our Come Dine With Me unit, whereby we planned a 3-course meal suitable for a wide range of palates. We will commence cooking very soon - keep your eyes peeled for our culinary creations. Now onto PE, we haven't stopped moving our bodies in a wide variety of ways, from Boogie Bouncing, to breakdancing, to bmxing and sports day practice - the list is endless.
We have also commenced practising for our end of year play - who knew we have so many thespians amongst us?
In the coming weeks we have many more exciting activities planned to ensure our wonderful Blue Whales have a fantastic end to their Pilgrim journey.
Orcas
What a fantastic half term it has been in Orcas! The children have enjoyed a wide range of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum. In DT, they impressed us with their creativity and teamwork during our Come Dine With Me challenge, producing delicious dishes using peppers, tofu and pineapple. Congratulations to our winners: Kacie & Phoebe (Best Starter), Zack & Mylo (Best Main) and Zack & Freddie (Best Dessert), and thank you to Miss Fretwell for judging. In English, the class explored Skellig through poetry performances and charcoal artwork, as well as enjoying a special reading by Michael Morpurgo. In maths, the children created coordinate artwork, learned about pay and tax, and developed their understanding of averages.
Computing lessons focused on how the Mars Rover transmits data and images to Earth, with children creating their own pixel pictures using Excel. Science lessons involved investigating gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction through practical experiments, while in music the children began writing songs about their memories of primary school. We also enjoyed a fun-filled Boogie Bounce session and an exciting BMX and breakdancing workshop. Finally, congratulations to Katrin and Ashton, who used their dojo rewards to become Teaching Assistants for the day, showing fantastic responsibility and leadership. We are incredibly proud of everything Orcas have achieved this half term!
Colour Dash!
On 12th June, Pilgrim Academy hosted our Colour Dash for the LCH (Lifting Children's Hopes) Charity. The children and staff had a lot of fun, and look forward to the next one in 2027. We are incredibly proud to announce that your generosity raised an amazing £3,038, including Gift Aid!
On behalf of the LCH Charity, a massive thank you to all our Pilgrim Family for your wonderful donations.
