New Howard Frankland Bridge opens to traffic
Tampa, Florida – The new span of the Howard Frankland Bridge has officially opened to traffic, marking a significant milestone for Tampa Bay commuters after more than four years of construction.
Constructed by Archer Western and Traylor Bros., Inc., the new bridge will ease the daily congestion that has long plagued the vital connection between Tampa and St. Petersburg. The Florida Department of Transportation oversaw this $865 million project to enhance regional mobility, with traffic shifting onto the new southbound lanes overnight, welcoming drivers to a smoother, safer commute starting this morning. Archer Western was proud to be a part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony that celebrated the bridge’s opening to traffic.
Spanning Old Tampa Bay, the new Howard Frankland Bridge boasts impressive features designed for both current and future needs. It stretches over three miles and offers eight lanes in total: four general-purpose lanes for southbound traffic from Tampa to St. Petersburg and two tolled express lanes in each direction, with the express lanes set to open next year. Standing approximately 10 feet higher than its predecessor, the bridge is engineered for a 100-year lifespan.

First Digester Lid placed at Morris Forman Water Quality Treatment Center
Louisville, Kentucky - The Walsh Construction team successfully installed the first digester lid at the Morris Forman Water Quality Treatment Center, marking a major milestone in the Biosolids Processing Solution Project. This achievement follows careful planning and coordination by the team to manage logistics, fabrication, equipment, and weather conditions. The ongoing upgrade includes replacing aging equipment and introducing advanced thermal hydrolysis pretreatment (THP) technology along with key system improvements.
New equipment installation during the remaining 3.5 years of this new water market project will utilize the new THP to increase the volume of wastewater solids processed. This will generate sustainable Class A biosolids, resulting in energy recovery and production for on-site use, and reduce waste sent to the landfill. After project completion in early 2028, the facility will treat all solids to Class A standards, producing approximately 40,000 dry tons of exceptional quality biosolids annually that can be used for beneficial reuse.
