Fork Union Honors Graduating Class at Annual Senior & PG Dinner

Fork Union Military Academy held its annual Senior and Postgraduate Dinner on Saturday, March 23rd, at the Estes Dining Hall. This momentous occasion celebrated the graduating class of 63 seniors and postgraduates, marking their embarkation on a new chapter while solidifying their place within the enduring FUMA brotherhood.

The evening unfolded amidst an elegant atmosphere, with a delightful formal dinner served to the cadets and their families. Inspiring the graduating class was the esteemed guest speaker, Gary Hines, a proud FUMA alumnus from the class of 1978. Mr. Hines' speech inspired the seniors and postgraduates as he shared his experiences and insights, offering valuable guidance for their future endeavors.

Meanwhile, the Academy's Alumni Board, instrumental in sponsoring this cherished tradition, had several members present. They not only supported the graduating class but were also acknowledged for their unwavering dedication and contributions to FUMA.

This annual dinner serves as a poignant reminder of the Academy's legacy of fostering a strong sense of community that extends beyond graduation. As the graduating class embarks on their journeys beyond FUMA, they carry with them not only the invaluable education they received but also the enduring spirit of brotherhood that will forever connect them to the Academy and their fellow FUMA alumni.

Culminating the evening's festivities, the seniors and postgraduates received a special FUMA pin to wear on their uniforms for the remainder of the year. This symbolic gesture solidified their place within the FUMA brotherhood. The pins, featuring the FUMA Crest with Fork Union Military Academy engraved on the top and Alumni 2024 engraved on the bottom, were proudly pinned on by alumni present at the event, creating a heartwarming moment of connection between generations of FUMA men.

The Class of 2024 will be celebrated Friday, June 7, 2024 in a commencement ceremony starting at 10 AM on the Stadium Field. Prior to graduation, the Academy will honor its seniors during the Senior Day Parade on Friday, May 24 at 2 PM at the Stadium Field.

William Horrigan Addresses the Corps for the Fourth Christian Leadership Series

Fork Union Military Academy (Fork Union) hosted William "Bill" Horrigan for the fourth installment of their Christian Leadership Series (CLS) on Wednesday morning.

The CLS program, established by academy trustee David Barrett, invites successful Christian speakers to inspire cadets. These speakers showcase the intersection of faith, vocation, and leadership. Additionally, their visits help spread awareness about Fork Union and its mission.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1932, Bill's formative years were shaped by a strong Christian upbringing in a Roman Catholic family. Active in church and passionate about sports, he balanced faith with athletics.

Bill's academic journey included an undergraduate degree from Miami University (Ohio) where he played football under legendary coach Ara Parseghian, later a powerhouse at Notre Dame. During this time, Bill met his wife Beverly, with whom he shared a loving marriage for decades until her passing in late 2023. They raised three children and have four grandchildren, welcoming their first great-grandchild, Bennett William, last year.

Bill dedicated 24 years to the U.S. Navy, traveling the world alongside Beverly. Following his retirement, he transitioned to materials management at the Medical College of Virginia before embarking on a successful healthcare sales and distribution career. He fully retired at 72, nearly 20 years ago.

Bill's dedication to service extends beyond his professional career. He has volunteered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for nearly 18 years and currently serves as Chaplain for the Manchester High School Football Team in Virginia.
