Viva La Vida

On June 4th, 2022, I got the chance to see my favorite band in concert—Coldplay. I've been a diehard fan since I was a child, so seeing them live was an adventure of a lifetime. With much anticipation, my two sisters, mom, aunt, cousin, and myself headed to MetLife Stadium with lots of time to spare. Once we got through security and scanned our tickets, we received bracelets; the security officers told us they were synced to the music, lighting up all different colors during the set list. We were so excited and immediately started taking pictures. All of us cousins desperately tried capturing good pictures before the sun set.

After a million pictures ambushed our camera rolls full of yellow, we finally went to our seats. Nosebleeds are said to the worst section at concerts—especially considering how much cheaper they are compared to floor or lower bowl seating. However, when I sat down, I thought our view was perfect! We could see the entire stage and the gorgeous sunset.

While waiting for Coldplay to go on, I was thinking about my favorite songs and lines from them.

  • "Lights will guide you home. And ignite your bones." (Fix You)
  • "Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you." (Yellow)
  • "Nobody said it was easy. Oh, it's such a shame for us to part." (The Scientist)
  • "My heart is yours. It's you that I hold on to." (Sparks)
  • "Life go on, it gets so heavy. The wheel breaks the butterfly." (Paradise)
  • "Oh, what I'd give for just a moment to hold." (Everglow)

Shortly after I was dazing off, there was a quiet hum growing through the crowd. The band slowly came out one by one and rearranged their instruments. We were trying—and failing—to wait patiently for lead singer Chris Martin to kick off the concert. Finally, after fifteen agonizing minutes, the crowd went from cheering to screaming. The long wait was now over and the months of waiting for this night was worth every second!

BEST 2 1/2 HOURS OF MY LIFE

Two and a half hours flew by since I was singing my lungs out, crying, and dancing. With spectacular music and a good group of people, it's hard not to have fun; it truly is still the best concert I've ever went to.

Coldplay ended the show with grand fireworks that lit up the entire sky full of stars—a bittersweet end to a fantastic, electrifying night that taught me how to viva la vida—live the life!!
