What does it mean to be a member of NHS?

Source: www.nationalhonorsociety.org

The NHS (National Honor Society) is a global organization that recognizes students from international schools for their leadership, character, service, and academic achievements. Members of this society are well-rounded students who enhance their group's strengths and make a positive impact on society. Being part of this select group is a significant achievement on a student's resume and opens doors to various institutions worldwide.

To join the chapter, high school students who have maintained a weighted GPA of 3.4 or higher go through an evaluation process in which a committee of teachers assesses each student’s leadership qualities, character, and service. The committee, along with the Principal, will determine who the new members for the upcoming school year will be.

Earth Day – Sustainable Tree and Plant Sale 2024

The students of the Honor Society, both NHS and NJHS, are leading this green initiative to promote environmental awareness within our school community. This week, during breaks, we’re inviting everyone to purchase beautiful plants starting at $8,000 COP or donate a tree for $20,000 COP.
All proceeds will support eco-friendly projects that help us create a greener, more sustainable CBR. Let’s grow together — one plant at a time!

Literary Cambalache 2025

The National Honor Society (NHS) proudly led the CBR Book Swap, a wonderful initiative that brought our community together around the love of reading.

Held on May 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2025, this event gave students and families the chance to exchange books they had already read for new stories, promoting sustainability, curiosity and a passion for literature.

Whether seasoned readers or just beginning their literary journey, participants enjoyed discovering books, sharing recommendations, and celebrating the joy of reading as a community.

It was a heartwarming success — thank you to everyone who took part!

Jeans Day in Support of the Down Syndrome Corporation | World Down Syndrome Day 2025

The students of the Honor Society, both NHS and NJHS, joined this initiative, leading the way to make this event a success. This year, we encouraged the CBR community to wear mismatched socks as a symbol of diversity and acceptance. All funds raised during this day were donated to the Down Syndrome Corporation, supporting efforts to build a more inclusive and loving world for everyone.

Christmas Visit and Gift Delivery by NHS and NJHS to La Cardio Foundation

On Tuesday, December 10, members of our school's Honor Society, representing the NHS and NJHS, brought joy and hope to the patients at Fundación Cardio Infantil. With gifts purchased using funds raised at their events and heartfelt letters written by our youngest students, they touched hearts and demonstrated the power of solidarity and support during difficult times. It was an unforgettable experience for both the patients and our young leaders.

Support Vouchers Delivered to Staff Affected by the November 2024 Rainy Season

Thanks to the funds raised through various student-led initiatives, the members of the CBR Honor Society were able to provide support vouchers to staff members impacted by the heavy rains of November 2024. One of the beneficiaries shared the following heartfelt message of gratitude: "With deep gratitude, I want to send this message to the students of the Richmond Bilingual School Honor Society and to our colleague and NHS sponsor, Joyce Torres, for the thoughtful gesture and meaningful message they gave me this morning. Your kindness and care, especially after the difficult experience I went through with my car being damaged during last November’s floods, have truly touched my heart. This is a beautiful reminder that the Richmond spirit lives not only in our words but also in our actions, bringing together those of us who love and cherish this great Richmond Family. As Saint-Exupéry wrote in The Little Prince, ‘It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.’ You have given your time, your empathy, and your essence to strengthen this special bond we share at school. Thank you for being so amazing!"

Voluntary Collection of Non-Perishable Goods and Hygiene Products.

The "Voluntary Collection of Non-Perishable Goods and Hygiene Items," organized by the students of the Honor Society to support our CBR staff members affected by the winter storms, took place from November 18 to 22, 2024. The entire community was invited to participate in this initiative, bringing their donations to be placed in the designated boxes located in front of the Snack Bar.

CBR Hope and Generosity Day

On Thursday, December 12, we will celebrate the “CBR Day of Hope and Generosity,” a joyful and socially meaningful event where NHS, NJHS, and STUCO (Students Council) students will host children from the ECO Sueños and SMMK (San Maximiliano María Kolbe) foundations for a special day on our school campus. Each middle and high school classroom will sponsor two children, who will enjoy activities and meaningful moments with our school community. We sincerely thank the families who, together with their children and on a voluntary basis, will provide items for the gathering and coordinate with their advisors to prepare two Christmas gifts for their "sponsored children."

Donation of Used Uniforms During the Open Days of the School Year

The Used Uniform Donation Initiative, led by students from the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), was present at every Open Day throughout the school year. Honor Society members came together during these events to collect used school uniforms, which are processed through textile recycling. This meaningful initiative not only contributes to preserving our planet but also supports various social assistance programs in our country. We firmly believe in the power of sustainable and compassionate practices, and this activity is a wonderful way to put those values into action.
