Sunrise Photo Shoot at Mudeford Quay June 2024

SUNRISE PHOTOS TAKEN AT MUDEFORD QUAY ON 3RD JUNE 2024

Mudeford Quay is a small quay constructed in the late 1940s and is based near Christchurch in Dorset. It was a former fishing village, although there is still some fishing undertaken by locals.

Behind the quay is Christchurch Harbour, and on its left is Avon Beach. Opposite is Mudeford Sandbank or Spit which forms part of Hengistbury Head. On the head there are some very attractive Beach Huts (apparetently some of the most expensive in the UK) and memorable buildings such as The Black House (a local landmark). Today, Mudeford Quay is well used by water sports enthusiasts, and a popular place for crabbing. The quay also has a cafe, a pub (the Haven Inn), and a fish stall. The quay also has its own RNLI lifeboat station.

There are a small row of quaint houses behind the Haven pub, which I believe were originally called Haven House and now renamed Dutch Cottages which are for locals.

The first shot of the day - beautiful colours.

The purpose of the shoot was to get back into Photography as I hadn't really done much for last few years due to health issues and operations.

Because I wanted to get up to speed quickly, be creative and also do a Sunrise Shoot, I invested in a One-to-One with Mike Browne who is a well known photographer and tutor from the area. Mike was very patient with me and we went through various scenarios for ensuring good images.

As expected from the UK weather, it didn't play ball, and it became very cloudy at one stage, and so not to waste the morning, we turned our attention to the rest of the quay to photograph fauna and buildings.

So a great morning, a great location, and a great tutor. I was really happy with most of the photos I took and felt much more inspired. Mike is a great teacher and made me think about why I was taking specific photos and how could I improve on them.

So a great session. I have now decided to book up on one of Mike's Workshops in November 2024 that is taking place in Lanzarote. So I am keen to improve my landscapes, panoramics, sunrises, sunsets and street photography skills there.
