NC Teaching Fellows Program

ECU is proud to once again serve as a partner institute for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program! The program is a competitive, merit-based program offering teacher licensure in elementary education, special education and STEM education. The forgivable loan program offers up to $10,000 per year of tuition assistance for students who commit to teaching in a North Carolina public school. ECU Teaching Fellows will participate in the education community of scholars with an abundance of resources.

You will have access to the Teaching Resources Center in Joyner Library to help prepare for your time in the classroom. The center contains children and young adult materials, K-12 textbooks, multimedia, teaching aids, and more

You will have the opportunity be a part of an integrated learning center. Designed to provide ECU students with real-world learning experiences and research-based instruction, the ECU Community School is a collaboration between East Carolina University and Pitt County Schools.

The College of Education Living-Learning Community is one of several residential learning programs at ECU. Education majors live together in a dedicated residence hall that provides encouragement, support and enrichment activities. Aspiring educators gain valuable support as they transition from high school to university life.

Education Community of Scholars volunteer in the Greenville community and beyond.

The Educators Hall of Fame has raised more than $700,000 toward a goal of $1 million for the college’s scholarship endowment.

Elementary and Middle Grades Education

Students can obtain teaching licensure in elementary education and four content areas in middle grades education. The programs are committed to the preparation of teachers who are knowledgeable, reflective, technologically proficient, and skilled in meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education

Students can obtain teaching licensure in English education and history education for secondary schools and reading licensure for K-12 settings. These degree programs are designed to produce educators knowledgeable in classroom management and teaching methods in a specific subject.

Mathematics, Science and Instructional Technology

Are you ready for a rewarding career as a science or mathematics teacher? The department is a leader in the development of science, mathematics and technology integration at all academic levels, and our programs are widely recognized for their high quality and innovation in preparing students for this in-demand field.

The Center for STEM Education (C-STEM) at ECU provides experiences in science and mathematics education in an environment of multidisciplinary research. Here students are able to utilize cutting-edge technologies in a supportive environment.

Special Education, Foundations and Research

Are you ready to use your understanding and attentive nature as a special education teacher? Our combination of excellent classroom instruction and real-world experiences will prepare you to obtain teaching licensure in special education in a variety of disciplines: learning disabilities, behavioral/emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities and low incidence disabilities.

Interdisciplinary Professions

ECU can prepare you for a career as a counselor, librarian or educational professional working in schools, adult/continuing education, higher education, vocational education and industry. Coursework and real, practical experiences will empower you to think critically and provide a strong foundation for success.
