BEFORE YOU READ | On Dec. 10, the North varsity boys ice hockey team played the Brother Rice varsity B team at their home rink, Big Boy Ice Arena. The entire game was filled with high intensity and high morale throughout the close game. Although the boys played well, North unfortunately lost 2-4. Despite the loss, the team still came together to celebrate their small victories throughout the game and kept their spirits high.
THE SPIRIT OF SCORING | Scoring a first goal is a moment of personal achievement and an indication of a player's hard work and determination, which freshman Benjamin Clor experienced during the middle of the game. “It feels good to get my first goal off as a freshman,” Clor said.

MORE THAN JUST A SPORT | Hockey is a sport for sophomore Levi Olsey that not only offers the thrill of the game, but also the excitement of travel and new experiences. “My favorite thing would probably be traveling because it is cool to play all around the country and meet people from different teams,” Olsey said.

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK | Throughout the game, the players remained harmonious and worked together to produce the best hockey possible. Many players such as senior captain Tim Klatt have pregame rituals to help them prepare for tough games. “My pregame routine is to drink a Redbull and listen to music while tapping my stick,” Klatt said.

EFFORT GOES FAR | Success for sophomore Aidan Burney stems from both individual effort and support from his team. He pushes himself to be his best in every practice and game and finds success through his efforts, but he also finds success in the effort the team puts in to uplift one another. “We as a team will tell each other what we all did well on to encourage us,” Burney said.

THE FEAR OF A FACEOFF | Facing off, sophomore Charlie Mueller attempts to gain control of the puck. To prepare for the game, Mueller ensures that he goes above and beyond to make his team proud. “I shoot pucks at home every day and go to extra training skates,” Mueller said.

LIFTING EACH OTHER UP | Making it a priority to boost the team’s spirit, Assistant Coach Brent Maynard acknowledges players' achievements in many ways, from uplifting pep talks to posting player milestones on their Instagram @gpnorth_hockey, to building a positive environment of uplifting between the coaches and players. “We try to build a lot of comradery, we focus as coaches to create a positive environment where everyone is trying to pick each other up,” Maynard said.
