Welcome everyone to this weeks newsletter.
A great week of noticeable independence in school this week. Our learners are embracing their learning opportunities in class, learning zones and outdoors to demonstrate their skills. Fantastic!
We have a growing following on instagram, fantastic for you as parents and families to get a glimpse of what goes on day to day. Please do share our content with your friends and family. We always welcome visitors and ways of sharing ideas with other schools.
In the coming months we've plans of developing Welsh skills, cultural celebrations and Christmas festivities planned. We are always grateful of your support as a community throughout the year, particularly in the festive period. Greatly appreciative of our PTA's support with the halloween disco this week! Thank you.
We are always here to listen, offer support or may know where we can contact another service. Please do come and speak to us if you've ever any questions.
Have a great weekend!
Mr Martin
A fantastic last full week in Alwen! We have been looking at mass. We've made predictions, tested them using balancing scales and talked about our findings. Nursery have sequenced the story of farmer duck and Reception have retold the story in their own words. We have been very creative making pumpkin soup, leaf printing and designing pebbles. In Udeskole we went on a pumpkin hunt & using leaf paint brushes to make our own pictures. Da Iawn pawb!
This week in our Udeskole day we looked after the chickens and collected 2 eggs! We talked about how chickens behave and watched them turn over soil. We fed the goats, stroked the sheep and then went into our forest where hunted for fairies, collected 'Mouse hats' and learnt how to make a forest whistle. We edited and redrafted our party invitations in Literacy and finished made sensible predictions in Science.
Dosbarth Tegid have had a busy and creative week! In literacy, the class have been practising how to write clear and detailed instructions on how to carve a pumpkin, thinking carefully about the steps and the language needed. In maths, they have been working hard on practising column addition.
The children have also enjoyed designing their own pumpkins with imaginative ideas and colourful patterns. Outdoors, they had lots of fun making their own chalk paint and using it to decorate the trees, bringing a splash of colour to the school grounds! Da iawn pawb.
Brenig have knocked our socks off this week building up to their writing task on birds and embracing challenge in maths! Wow! We also used our research skills to note the wingspan of native birds then mapped them on our yard to physically see their size.
We watched a clip from a BBC documentary with amazing audio clips of bird calls. A great watch for your little ones on British wildlife. Next week, a solution focussed approach to what we can do...
We finished our week exploring art skills by creating our own version of what our forest looks like through autumn.
This week in Dosbarth Gwynant we have been continuing our learning on climate change by creating podcast scripts to film and share our learning! We have included data, statistics, and facts that we have explored throughout the topic. Then we enjoyed recording our podcasts using iPads☺️
We have enjoyed practising our assembly ready to show parents next week! We can't wait to show you what we have been doing in class. For Udeskole, we got creative and made colour wheels and then explored the forest area to find natural resources to match the colours!
Fferm Y Ferry
Harvest is upon us...the Ferry Farmers and budding farm apprentices set about harvesting the pumpkins and cleaning the garden. We had great conversations about the size and weight of pumpkins, evidence of creatures beneath the soil and the hens set about fertilising it for us straight away. Turning the soil will make way for plans in the current chicken area in the near future!
This week we welcomed a visit from staff at a local specialist learning centre exploring the idea of starting their own school farm! We've also met with staff from the Community Focussed Schools programme who were extremely complimentary of what our school have developed and look forward to hear about their projects. Great to be supporting other settings and credit to our pupils for what they have developed.
