Quincy Mitchell // Senior Software Eng with a lot of hats

// Creator

I create experiences that move across devices & screens. My expertise can move across multiple domains/roles because I gravitate toward tools that empower me to be a strong multi-functional engineer. I am a kid in a candy store when a technology opens a new world to me when it was historically only for specialized roles.

// Learning in Community

A critical part of my learning process is involving others and bringing other engineers along with me. Applying new knowledge usually looks like building a working prototype, and then giving an internal seminar, training, or external blog post. Other examples are identifying key new technologies for my organization due to future demand for those skills.

// Multi-Functional Engineer on...

WebApps & Native Apps;

React, React Native, PWA, React Native Web, Expo are all technologies that have allowed me to Learn Once, and Write tailored experiences for Web, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, tvOS, Xbox, fireTV, and more. Give me a cup of coffee, and I can tell you the time I shipped windows app that reached 300M devices. I also at one point created the largest database of public toilet locations in the US.

Cloud;

AWS Cloud Development Kit makes it easy for application engineers to deploy their own infrastructure when that was typically done by specialist roles. In my communities, it has proven to be much easier to learn AWS infrastructure from an API layer instead of clicking around the very complex console UI.

IoT;

I'm lucky that I can say I was involved in two super fun IoT products. I architected the frontend app running on a vending machine. It was very animated and very whimsical. I also helped a startup create a custom IoT device adhered to vehicles that is solving a realtime computer vision problem at ~20fps using nvidia jetson. It was super fun picking up C++ and writing multi-thread/multi-proc code.

Data;

When I worked with one of the FANG companies, I was lucky to learn how [with GraphQL] they structured their data platforms for vast data requirements & compliance.

Security;

I have worked with healthcare, multiple financial, multiple social media companies all having high standards for compliance.

Devops;

I can talk your ear off with devops & how it impacts engineering culture / speed / QA. I have often created standards, team process, and the whole pipeline in some cases.
