"Hiding Domestic Violence and Drunk Driving" Suspension of Qualification for One Year

The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) has imposed a one-year suspension on setter OK Financial Group setter Kwak Myung-woo, who was convicted by the court on domestic violence and other charges.

KOVO held a reward and punishment committee on Kwak Myung-woo to confirm the level of disciplinary action.

The level of disciplinary action was not as high as expected.

The reward and punishment committee said, "We judged that the player's imprisonment was an act that undermined the league's dignity," but added, "We took into account the fact that the player deeply repented and pleaded with the victim to punish the player as lenient as possible in the court ruling."

Article 10, Paragraph 1 of Chapter 3 of KOVO's reward and punishment regulations defines "members who have committed serious social criminal acts such as sexual crimes (including sexual harassment), violence, drunk driving, illegal drugs, gambling, match-fixing, racism, school violence in the past, human rights violations, etc." as disciplinary targets.

The level of disciplinary action ranges from warnings to expulsion.

The reward and punishment committee seems to have set the level of disciplinary action somewhat lower, weighing on "the fact that the victim pleaded for the player to be punished as lenient as possible."

Kwak Myung-woo was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for one year, and suspended for one year for violating the Communications Secret Protection Act and injuring.

The court also ordered the completion of a 40-hour domestic violence treatment program.

The first trial ruling on Kwak Myung-woo, who was accused of assaulting his wife, came out in September last year and the second trial in May this year.

Kwak Myung-woo gave up his appeal to the Supreme Court, and his sentence was confirmed.

On top of that, it was belatedly revealed that he hid it from the club even though he was caught driving under the influence in 2021 through a trial in May.

The detection and concealment of drunk driving were also discussed as "disciplinary targets" by the reward and punishment committee, but it does not seem to have had a significant impact on the level of disciplinary action.

Before the KOVO's committee came to a conclusion, Kwak Myung-woo stood in front of reporters and apologized, saying, "I told the committee members exactly as they are. I am sorry to everyone," and added, "I will be punished according to the committee's decision. I will deeply reflect on myself and live my life."

In this reward and punishment committee, "When did the OK Financial Group club recognize Kwak Myung-woo's trial?" was also an issue.

Kwon Chul-geun, head of OK Financial Group, explained, "I only found out after trading with Hyundai Capital that Kwak Myung-woo was tried."

OK Financial Group gave up setter Kwak Myung-woo to Hyundai Capital on April 19 and made a trade with middle blocker Cha Young-seok to receive a first-round pick of the 2024-2025 rookie draft.

On April 22, Hyundai Capital's volleyball team received a report on Kwak Myung-woo, and Hyundai Capital met with Kwak Myung-woo and OK Financial Group officials on April 25.

On April 25, Kwak Myung-woo confessed, "I've been on trial, and a second trial ruling will come out soon."

Hyundai Capital soon announced its intention to reject the trade to OK Financial Group, and OK Financial Group and Hyundai Capital requested KOVO to withdraw the trade disclosure.

In the end, the trade, which was also released on the club's social network service (SNS) between OK Financial Group and Hyundai Capital, became "nothing happened." 토토사이트 모음

The reward and punishment committee accepted OK Financial Group's call and said without any disciplinary action, "We ask the federation and the club to make every effort to manage and operate players more thoroughly."

OK Financial Group will also discuss its own level of disciplinary action.

An official from OK Financial Group said, "The contract with Kwak Myung-woo expires on June 30th, but I don't think giving up the renewal after the contract expires can be considered a disciplinary action," adding, "We will let you know the result after considering what the actual punishment will be."
