Principal's Message
As we approach the end of Term 2, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many highlights and achievements of this term. We've had a busy and exciting few months, and I'm proud of the hard work and enthusiasm displayed by our students, staff, and community.
One of the standout events was our ANZAC Service, which was a moving and respectful tribute to those who have served our country. Our students participated with great dignity, and it was heart-warming to see our community come together to honour this important occasion.
Our 1899 Dress-Up Day was another memorable event, with students and staff alike embracing the opportunity to step back in time. The creativity and effort put into the costumes were truly impressive, and it was a fantastic way to bring history to life for our students.
We also enjoyed a wonderful Thank P&C Breakfast, which was a great opportunity to show our appreciation for the incredible support we receive from our P&C. Their dedication and hard work make so many of our school events and initiatives possible.
The school disco was a highlight for many of our students, who enjoyed a night of dancing, fun, and fantastic dress-ups. Thank you to everyone who braved the stormy weather to attend and to the P&C, particularly the Year 4 mums and dads, for organising such a fun event.
As we look forward to Term 3, we have several exciting activities and important events on the horizon. Swimming lessons will take place in Weeks 4 and 5, and again in Weeks 5 and 6. Information will be sent home next week, and we ask that you return the forms as soon as possible to ensure your child's participation.
PEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) assessments for our Year 4 students will also be conducted next term. These assessments are a valuable opportunity for our students to demonstrate their abilities and potentially participate in enrichment programs.
I would like to extend a genuine thank you to our P&C and the school board for their unwavering support throughout the term. Your contributions and commitment to our school community are greatly appreciated.
Staffing Update
Staffing North Perth Primary School with high quality and passionate educators is essential for creating a positive and effective learning environment. Our teachers and support staff play a crucial role in nurturing your children's intellectual, social, and emotional development. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to their roles, ensuring that each student receives the attention and support they need to thrive.
By maintaining a strong and stable team of educators, we can provide continuity in our teaching, foster strong relationships with students, and implement consistent and effective whole school approaches based on evidence-based best practice. This stability is vital for our students' success and helps them feel secure and supported throughout their educational journey.
We are committed to attracting and retaining top talent by offering professional development opportunities, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment, and recognising the hard work and dedication of our staff. Your support and involvement as parents and guardians are also invaluable in this effort. Together, we can ensure that our school remains a place where both students and staff can flourish.
We are able to share that the establishment of the Kindergarten to Year 6 Teaching Pool is now finalised. This pool will serve as the primary resource for filling any fixed-term or permanent teaching vacancies that arise in 2024 and for offering positions for the upcoming year, 2025. We would like to acknowledge Daniel Smith, our Board Chair, for being a panel member during this process.
As you may be aware, some teachers at North Perth Primary School hold permanent positions while others are on fixed-term contracts. This is common practice in public schools. Fixed-term contracts typically cover the roles of permanent teachers who are on leave (such as maternity leave) or are acting in another capacity.
Due to recent retirements, teachers reducing their FTE and moving to different schools, we are pleased to announce that we have been able to offer permanent positions to some of our current fixed-term staff members. Please join me in congratulating Hope Stein, Jodie Dunning, Kendall Blackie, and Lauren Hayes on their new permanent roles.
We are excited to welcome Jennifer Meyer, an external applicant who has also secured a permanent position. Jennifer is an experienced Level 3 educator with excellent skills in high impact teaching strategies and instructional coaching. She will join our team next term, taking over for Mrs. Aung, who is commencing her maternity leave.
Additionally, I am pleased to announce that Libby Goodwin will continue in her role as K-2 Deputy Principal for the remainder of the year.
Thank you for your continued support and for joining us in celebrating these achievements. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of our staffing further, please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank P&C DAY
The Thank P&C Day Breakfast was a simple gesture from North Perth Primary School to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of our P&C, both past and present. Your commitment and tireless efforts have significantly enriched our school community through organising events, spearheading fundraisers, and providing invaluable insights during meetings. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for all you do.
Disco
Despite the stormy weather, thank you to everyone who braved the elements to bring their kids to the disco. It was a fun night of dancing, filled with awesome dress-ups. A massive shout-out to the P&C for organising this event, especially the Year 4 mums and dads.
Fundraiser for Student Bathroom Renovations
Two Year 5 students, Charlotte C and Eden, have are on a campaign to renovate the student bathrooms at North Perth PS. They have surveyed well over 100 students for improvement ideas. This has included, non-slip mats, extra soap and hand towel dispensers, greenery, and motivational posters. These are being actioned by the school in collaboration with the students.
The biggest part of the renovation project is repainting the bathrooms. The girls have surveyed students for colour ideas and are selling apple slinkies each day during Week 11 at Break 2 to raise money. The money raised will go towards purchasing paint. They will be sold for the cost of $1 each and they are looking forward to your support.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Strongly aligned to the Department of Education’s Student Behaviour in Public Schools Policy, WA PBS recognises the importance of creating classrooms with high academic engagement, supporting an integrated approach to behaviour, learning and teaching.
Positive Behaviour Support builds a continuum of support for staff and students with an emphasis on building relationships. It is a decision-making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based practices for improving academic and behaviour outcomes for all students through data and supporting systems.
PBS at North Perth Primary School;
The PBS team is responsible for leading staff, students and school community to effectively implement the PBS Framework, establishing a Positive Behaviour Support ethos and culture that promotes transparency, consistency and high expectations. The PBS team consists of – Hope Stein (Leader), Libby Goodwin (Coach), Lauren Hayes, Cristina Scott, Gianna Chiffelle and Chris Seeber.
This term has seen the PBS team and staff revise the Values Behaviour Expectation Matrix, ensuring it is accessible and presented in student friendly language. Students have been engaged in the relaunch the Joey acknowledgement system, completing a ‘Where’s Joey?’ hunt in the Hall during Week 5. Classes are currently brainstorming names for the new Joey Mascots and the PBS team looks forward to announcing these by the end of the term.
