Welcome to Week Four at Lodge Park Academy
This week at Lodge Park Academy has been a truly busy and rewarding one, filled with events, activities, and opportunities for our students to shine both inside and outside the classroom. Each day has seen our House football competitions take centre stage, with students from Year 7 through to Year 11 demonstrating teamwork, resilience, and House pride in friendly competition.
Alongside this, assemblies have played a vital role in strengthening our community and values. In the afternoons, Vice Principal Mrs Cooper has delivered powerful year group assemblies on the theme of school avoidance and the importance of excellent attendance, while morning assemblies have focused on the sense of 'belonging' that comes from being part of our House system.
On Thursday evening, we were delighted to welcome families of our Year 10 students to our GCSE launch event, offering vital information and guidance as they begin this important stage of their journey. We also marked the European Day of Languages, celebrating diversity and culture, while staff came together to support a wonderful cause at our Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Our Year 11 students continue to set the tone with their commitment to attendance and attitude during our after-school sessions, and it has been especially encouraging to see high levels of homework completion across all year groups.
All in all, it has been a fantastic week, and we are proud of the dedication, positivity, and community spirit that continues to thrive across the Academy
Thanks for your continued support
Warm regards,
Lodge Park Academy Leadership Team

We look forward to seeing you on the 29th September.
Table Talk
We regularly talk to students about British values: Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, and Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. This week, you may like to take the opportunity to discuss one of these - Liberty - with your child.
Why Talk to students About Liberty?
In a world that’s constantly changing, one value remains essential: individual liberty—the idea that each person has the right to make choices about their own life. For adults, this may seem like a weighty political or philosophical topic, but it’s never too early to begin nurturing a child’s understanding of personal freedom. In fact, engaging children in age-appropriate conversations about liberty can help them grow into thoughtful, confident, and responsible citizens.
Start with Everyday Examples
The best way to introduce the concept of liberty to children is by grounding it in real-life experiences. Ask questions like: “Do you like choosing your own clothes in the morning?” “What rules do you think are fair or unfair at school?” “What would you do if someone told you what game you had to play every day?” These open-ended questions not only invite dialogue but also allow kids to reflect on the importance of choice, fairness, and autonomy—key components of liberty.
Use Stories and History, Children’s books, historical figures, and even family stories can all be great tools. Share stories of people who stood up for their rights or made a difference by expressing themselves freely.
Try discussing: “Why did people want to be free?” or “What rights do you think are most important?” Encourage your child to express opinions, ask questions, and listen to others. This helps them understand that liberty isn’t just about getting their way, but about balancing freedom with responsibility.
Model Liberty in Action
Children learn most powerfully through example. Let them make age-appropriate choices—what to eat for lunch, how to spend their free time, or which books to read. When they experience the outcomes of their decisions, both good and bad, they gain a deeper appreciation for the freedom to choose and the responsibility that comes with it.
Final Thoughts
Teaching children about individual liberty doesn’t require a degree in political science. It starts with conversations, choices, and values shared at home and in the classroom. By engaging students early, we empower them to grow into adults who understand their rights, respect the rights of others, and are equipped to stand up for freedom—both their own and that of their communities.
Why We Do What We Do
Every term we run a Fire drill practice. At LPA we conducted our Fire Drill today 26th September. The students conducted themselves really well.
These drills are designed to help students, staff members respond appropriately in the event of a fire, and to make sure everyone knows how to evacuate the building safely and quickly. Preparing students and staff for an emergency situation is important, so they will know how to act quickly and calmly when it happens.
These drills support muscle memory, familiarizing everyone with escape routes and protocols, and testing emergency equipment and plans. Regular drills reduce panic and confusion, promote a culture of safety, and ensure everyone knows what to do in a high-pressure situation.
Thank You to Year 11 Families
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all parents and carers of Year 11 students for your commitment in attending the Parent Information Evening on Thursday 18th September. Your support is invaluable as we work together to help our students achieve their best.
For those that were unable to attend, Mr Cronin has shared the resources from the evening with all families to ensure that no one missed out on this important information.
Best regards,
Mr McGeown – Vice Principal
Moments Matter, Attendance Counts
Regular school attendance can facilitate positive peer relationships, which is a protective factor for mental health and wellbeing.
As we return to school and move into winter, there is inevitably an increase in illnesses. It can be tricky deciding whether to keep your child off school when they're unwell. There are government guidelines to support you in this decision.

If you need to report your child’s absence, please do so before 08:15 on the day of the absence and each day of absence. If a child is absent from school for 3 days or more, our Attendance Welfare Officers will conduct a home visit.
Meet Our New Tutors at Lodge Park Academy
I am excited to join Lodge Park as Head of Art and Design Technology, creative education is my passion, and I am looking forward to seeing the young people of my community flourish. I have over 16 years teaching experience across Northamptonshire, with 10 of those in leadership roles.
Prior to becoming a Teacher I trained at RADA in Theatrical Wardrobe and worked across a variety of West End Theatres as Head of Wardrobe. Some of the most known productions I worked on include Cabaret, The Rat Pack and the 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre.
I enjoy all things creative, but you will mostly find me with a crochet hook and yarn!
I started teaching English at Lodge Park Academy in September 2025.
I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a BA in History and I am currently training to become an English teacher. I have also gained valuable experience through teaching placements in schools across Leicestershire. My passion for English began at the age of 16 when I started tutoring GCSE students, and it grew further through my enjoyment of A Level English.
Outside of school, I enjoy cooking and going to the gym, which helps me to relax and stay active.
I have been teaching Physics/Science for 15 years and have worked as Head of Science for seven years in Pakistan. I moved to the UK in 2023, and taught Physics at a school in Dewsbury for 12 months. Last year, I started my Post Graduate Certificate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status from Leeds Trinity University, and I am now an Early Careers Teacher at Lodge Park Academy.
I have a Masters in Physics, and I am always passionate to teach Physics. I love to watch science related documentaries and visiting historic places.
I am a Mathematics teacher at Lodge Park Academy. I have previous teaching experience across KS3 to KS5 Maths and Science.
Alongside teaching, I worked as a counsellor and coordinator for teenagers and youth, supporting young people through mentoring and community outreach programmes.
I have a BSc in Physics and bring to my teaching a passion for making mathematics engaging, accessible, and relevant to all students.
I love travelling and engaging in board games like chess and Scrabble.
I joined the music team at LPA in the summer term earlier this year as Interim Director of Music. I began my teaching career at another Corby school in 2009 before moving to other schools in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. When I was at school, my favourite subjects were Music, Art and English.
I have a BA Hons in Music and Film from the University of Nottingham and play a range of instruments (some self-taught). I play my violin in a few orchestras who perform regularly in Leicester. Making music has been a pretty big part of my life since I first started, and I have been lucky enough to see some of the world as a performer on orchestral tours.
I wasn't always a teacher! I used to work for an advertising agency in the design studio on some really exciting contracts including Bentley, WKD and Comic Relief.
I am the Head of Geography at Lodge Park Academy from September 2025. Before this, I worked in Northamptonshire and in Cape Town, South Africa.
I hold a Bachelor of Education degree in Geography and Computer Science from the University of South Africa, and I am currently completing my postgraduate studies in Geography, specialising in Geospatial Sciences. I am also recognised as a Chartered Geographer (CGeog) with the Royal Geographical Society and a I have completed my NPQLTD (National Professional Qualification in Leading Teacher Development).
Outside of school, I enjoy outdoor activities, especially hiking and kayaking, travelling, and relaxing with a good book.
Championing Independent Learning with Seneca at Lodge Park Academy
Seneca Week Three: Beating the competition!
Students in Years 10 and 11 have shown an exceptional commitment to their independent learning, with over 20,000 learning sessions completed across Seneca and our other platforms. Engagement is at an impressive 75%, with students recording more than 780 hours of homework time—many completing several hours each week. Lodge Park once again achieved the highest engagement across North Northamptonshire and ranked in the top two schools in DRET for work completed.
These outstanding figures reflect the dedication of our students and the invaluable support provided from home. As you can see with three days to go this week, it is tight at the top of the table!
Thank you to all parents for supporting this work.
Mr McGeown - Vice Principal, Quality of Education
Lodge Park Academy Bright Sparx
Each week, our students at LPA, complete maths questions for their homework on Sparx. Some students answer additional questions, further increasing their mathematical knowledge. The maths team would like to celebrate these students and recognise their dedicated work.
This week, we have also included a parent/carer link to 'A Parent's guide to Sparx maths', which may answer some questions that you might have about how to help your child if they need it.

Sports Club Timetable
Just a reminder that all after-school clubs finish at 4:10pm. If students would like to take part, please ensure they have their full PE kit.
If students would like to play on the Astroturf during lunchtime, they must bring trainers or football boots. Unfortunately, students will not be allowed on the Astroturf if they do not have the correct footwear.
It's great to see so many students taking part in our Sports Clubs.

LPA Harvest Festival Collection
Not long left to contribute and support this year’s Harvest Festival collection, in support of Corby Foodbank.
As a community, we are asking our four House Teams to come together throughout the term to donate food items and household products to support those most in need in our community.
We are kindly appealing for your donations of food items and household products to be brought into school and placed in the house boxes on the stage.
Year 7 and 8 students will be attending a Harvest Festival service at St Columba Church at the end of term, where all items will be donated to Corby Food bank.
Please do not donate fresh food products or any sharp household items. Items need to have a long shelf life. House points will be awarded to the house who donate the most ‘House Coloured’ packaged products.
Thank you in advance for your support.
