We've been reading Whatever Next!, in which a bear takes a journey to the moon. This sparked lots of conversations about the moon, space, and what our world looks like. The children shared some interesting theories, and many were adamant that the world is flat!
We explored Google Earth together, zooming in and out of familiar places and spinning the globe to discover that the Earth is round, like a sphere.
After reading even more stories about space, we decided to go on our own imaginative space mission, complete with some creative astronaut moves! The children enjoyed expressing their ideas through dance as they travelled through space.
We thought it would be fun to become World Explorers, so we looked at some of the places on Planet Earth that we might like to learn more about. The children then created their own World Explorer badges.
We pretended to have rockets zooming through space in the painting tray, making large circular movements with the Duplo cars. The children soon enjoyed exploring the paint with their hands, arms, and even their feet! This was a great warm-up for practising the letter 'c' formation.
Linking our new learning about Planet Earth with our earlier learning about plant growth, the children noticed their plants needed water and were all keen to help look after them.
We had so much fun outdoors during a brief dry spell between the rain at our on-site Forest School. The children were given a maths challenge and encouraged to move their bodies in different ways using the dancing ribbons.
It was lovely to return to the library on Thursday for some time to browse books and enjoy a calm, relaxing environment.
Below are some photos of the children fully engaged in their learning through play, exploring, discovering, and enjoying their time in the classroom..
Thank you for reading and for your continued support.
