Volunteer Spotlight!
Meet Hanna whose Making Art and Connection at the Adult Day Center
Hanna’s journey with Catholic Charities began with an admiration for our broad range of outreach programs, and a special passion for supporting those affected by Alzheimer's and dementia. After caring for her elderly mother-in-law, she found a calling to volunteer with the Adult Day Center, specifically to assist with arts and crafts activities. With her background in art and art history, Hanna knew this was a perfect fit.
“I knew Catholic Charities had a great reputation, and I saw the opening to volunteer at the adult day center,” Hanna shared. “Spending time with people who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia became close to my heart and combining that with my love for art felt like the right way to give back.”
For Hanna, the most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing the joy and pride on the faces of our Adult Day Center members as they complete a project. “It’s amazing to witness their sense of accomplishment,” she explained. “Their faces light up when they realize they’ve created something with their own hands. It’s a powerful reminder of the joy that comes with creative expression.”
Hanna hopes her passion for both art and its history sparks inspiration in the members at the Adult Day Center. “There are so many ways to make art fun,” she said. “I always try to approach each individual differently, finding ways to tap into their unique creativity. It’s amazing to see how a little bit of encouragement can lead to such meaningful moments.”
Hanna’s dedication to making a positive impact at the Adult Day Center is truly inspiring, and her enthusiasm continues to make a difference in the lives of everyone she works with.

“Friendships run deep,” says Annette, director of the Adult Day Center (ADC), “especially among those who have been part of our community for a decade or more, like Lizzy and Carol Jean. Whether it’s during a lively party or a quiet moment, the connections formed here are truly special.”
Our volunteers help to create special bonds of friendship with our participants. From group activities to one-on-one time, life at the ADC is enriched by these relationships.
