Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter

FRIDAY 27th MARCH 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of a wonderfully busy spring term, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for your support. This term has been filled with hard work, kindness, and countless moments that remind us what a special place our school is. Receiving such a positive Estyn report (click here to read our report) was a highlight for us all, and it truly reflects the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and the ongoing support of our families, governors and local community. We are incredibly proud of our four School Council members who recently attended the Denbighshire School Council event at Rhyl High School. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school, confidently presenting to other schools about how our School Council operates, the initiatives we run, and the activities they have actively supported and taken part in. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and professionalism were evident throughout the event, and they represented our school with great pride.   We’ve ended the term on such a lovely note, with our Easter services at both Ffordd Derwen and Grange Road. The children really enjoyed the celebrations - and of course, receiving their Easter gifts added to the smiles.   I hope you all have a happy, restful Easter break. We look forward to welcoming the pupils back on Tuesday 14th April.

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Headteacher

Our Week at Tir Morfa
Dosbarth Tegid enjoyed an end of term trip to Geronimo’s this week! They had a great time and were amazed at what a great place it was to practice all the core words we have learnt this term!!!
Aled Class had an Easter egg hunt in Forest School this week.
Brenig have been researching nests. We shared our ideas to make a list of what birds use to make them. We searched the wildlife garden for the items and then made our own.
Famau have been practising team skills and social communication at the games area in the Food Court in Rhyl.
This week the pupils in Dosbarth Enfys have been exploring their new tickle tent. The Easter bunny came and hid some noisy Easter treats inside.
Siabod enjoyed an educational visit today from our local friendly constabulary, learning about the vehicles and trying on the uniform.
Dosbarth Tryfan attended the last Youth Centre session. They all used the kitchen area to come up with something to make out of a potato. They made mash, roasties, and fries.
We took time to say goodbye to our friends from the Welsh National Opera, Bethan and Llio. We have loved our time with them and will miss joining in with songs, guessing what’s in the bag, making carrots from playdough, glow in the dark fish and sock puppets to name a few of the exciting activities they had in store for us. We are hoping they will be able to come back in the future to sing with us again in both Welsh and English. Thank you and Diolch Bethan and Llio
Dosbarth Haul enjoyed an Easter hunt in the outdoor classroom. We’ve had a fantastic week with lots of great achievements – well done everyone!
This week Dosbarth Lleuad have been taking part in lots of different Easter activities. Easter hunts, making Easter cards, painting, and making cakes.

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
