NPPS Newsletter april 2025

Principal's Message

As Term 1 draws to a close, it’s a great time to pause and reflect on what has been a busy and productive start to the year at NPPS.

Firstly, a massive thank you to our families for your incredible organisation during swimming lessons over the past fortnight. When students arrive prepped and ready, the whole process runs smoothly—and it has. Your support made it a breeze for staff and enjoyable for students.

Our Year 3 and 5 students tackled NAPLAN this term with great focus. Thank you to Anna Dennis for her outstanding coordination—her attention to detail ensured a calm and efficient experience for students and staff.

We also welcomed some new faces to our School Board this term. A warm introduction to our new Chair, Kelly Ekins, and new members Corey Steel and Lynsey Warbey. Their combined enthusiasm and expertise will be a great asset as the board continues its work supporting the school.

The Grounds Committee has been hard at work finalising the concept design for our Heart of the School project, as well as progressing the broader Master Plan. A finalised concept design and timeline of the Heart of the School project will be shared with the school community soon.

Speaking of upgrades, we’re pleased to confirm that new Year 1/2 toilets will be installed in Term 2. Even practical things like plumbing can be exciting when they make a real difference for staff and students.

Our Swimming Carnival was another highlight this term. Huge thanks to Mr Seeber for leading the charge and to all the parents who stepped in to help on the day—it was an outstanding display of our school community spirit and teamwork (albeit in extreme heat).

Throughout the term, staff have been focused on setting individual goals aligned to our Business Plan priorities. We’re committed to embedding best practice and continually improving outcomes for all students. This includes a focus this year on reviewing our Early Childhood philosophy, with the team focusing on our approach to play-based learning in K–2. This is supported by Amy Fabry from The Learning Centre, who is guiding this important pedagogical work.

Looking ahead to Term 2, we start with our ANZAC Service on Wednesday 30 April at 9.00am. There’s a full calendar ahead so please make sure you click on the Term 2 Planner below.

We're also rolling out Compass, our new Student Information System, with Phase 1 going live on Tuesday 13 May. Compass will bring a modern, secure, and streamlined approach to communication and student data management, replacing our outdated system.

Early school close and parent-teacher meetings are scheduled for Monday 16 June, offering a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher ahead of reports being sent home at the end of the term.

Finally, we’ll celebrate NAIDOC Week in Week 10, with special performances from Yirra Yaakin to honour and deepen our understanding of First Nations culture and perspectives.

Thanks for a terrific Term 1. Enjoy a well-earned break, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another big term ahead.

ANZAC Memorial Service

We warmly invite you to join us for our annual ANZAC Day Ceremony on Wednesday 30 April at 9:00am, held on the courts in front of the flag poles.

This important event is an opportunity for our school community to come together in remembrance and reflection, as we honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served—and continue to serve—our country in times of war and peace.

Our students will lead the ceremony, sharing readings, reflections, and music in a respectful and meaningful tribute.

We encourage parents to attend and be part of this significant moment in our school calendar. Extended families are also most welcome.

Swimming Carnival

The Annual Swimming Carnival at Beatty Park on Friday 28 March was an unforgettable day filled with excitement, friendship and wonderful swimming performances. Students, staff and families came together to celebrate the spirit of competition and participation, making it a standout event on the school calendar.

The day began with the freestyle races, stirring the energy and enthusiasm that carried through the day. Swimmers showcased their skills in various strokes, including breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, displaying impressive determination and sportsmanship. The relays brought even more excitement and challenges.

A huge congratulations to our champion and runner-up boys and girls, who excelled in the pool with outstanding performances. The highlight of the day was the crowning of Bolton as the overall winning faction, with Woodville securing second place and Vincent finishing third, a well-earned victory after a series of outstanding performance in the pool.

Whether competing for individual ribbons or taking part in the fun novelty races, every student played a role in making the day a success.

A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers, staff and parent volunteers for their hard work in organising the event and running the day. A special thanks also to the families and friends who came along in the hot weather, adding to the sense of community and atmosphere.

We can’t wait to do it again next year.

Harvest 6006

Thanks to everyone who came out to pick olives for our recent harvest. We greatly appreciate your efforts, and we hope our families shared a great experience over the weekend. The Krachler family won the top prize in our weight competition and will receive vouchers to both Rosemount Bowls and Rosemount Hotel.

Arthur Truong and Eve Morey were the talented winners of our poster art competition. Their creative posters (featured below) beautifully captured the essence of the harvest. These pieces will be featured on our gift tags and future marketing. As part of their prize, they also received $50 each from Diabolik Records and Books. Congratulations to the Arthur, Eve and the Krachler family!

P&C Next Meeting

This will not be a meeting to seek volunteers or ask for participation in roles … instead we want to welcome you to a P&C open night.

As announced last year our focus for this year is the “Heart of the School Project”, which is centred around the redevelopment of the grassed area and basketball courts. In the recent state election, we secured funding from John Carey to support this project, which will be supplemented by the funds raised from the P&C.

We have a team of fabulous parents coming together regularly to plan this redevelopment and we are almost ready to show you how it is coming together.

At the open night, we’d love to share our plans for how we’re planning to raise funds for the Heart of the School Project and, most importantly, we want to hear from you:

  • Have we met the brief in design for the redevelopment?
  • How should we spend the money we raise?
  • How can we build something to be proud of?
  • Have we missed anything?

Stay tuned for more details on this night next term.

Numbats News

Term 1 was a great start to the year for the Numbats. We kicked off with the early childhood movie afternoon and were joined by 90 dads and kids for a screening of Luca. It was a fantastic day with lots of popcorn thanks to our little helpers running the machines in the canteen! And back by popular demand was our sailing afternoon on the Derbal Yerrigan. This year we had a perfect afternoon, the sun was out, the wind was up and there were lots of smiles from our little captains as the river was alight with sails at full mast.

We have more planned for term 2 with an afternoon at Rosemount Bowls on May 25th, information to follow on the chat for times and booking so keep an eye out. We are also planning an afternoon of capture the flag later in the term, it may be a bit old school but the committee is pretty excited about this one. We are just ironing out the rules, the location and we will get some information out, it should be good fun and easy for everyone to get involved. Keep an eye on the chat for more information.

We have finalised the date for camping, and we apologies for the confusion as there have been a few considerations taken into account selecting the weekend. Save the date for the Friday the 31st of October and Saturday the 1st of November. Get your costumes and spooky campfire stories ready for what will be a great weekend as always. Keep an eye out on the chat towards the end of term 2 as we start to plan and get booking information out on the chat. We will give plenty of advance notice for ticket sales date in the lead up.

Keep an eye out on the chat and around the school for posters and if you are not on the chat group and would like to be, send a whatsapp message to 0410 861 766 and we will add you to the group. Have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone in term 2!

STELLE NASCENTI

“Stelle Nascenti” (Rising Stars) is a not-for-profit youth theatre group for young children aged 10-17, who are passionate about preserving and promoting the heritage of the Italian language and culture in Australia.

Taking part in theatre activities allows even the shyest children to step out of their comfort zone in a safe and friendly environment. Performing in front of a small audience of family members, teaches our young actors to have confidence in their ideas and abilities. This confidence is a strength that can be applied to school, careers and life. In general, theatre arts improve both the verbal and non-verbal expression of ideas. They improve vocal projection, articulation, pronunciation, fluency and body language, and is an amazing way to have fun!

The “Stelle Nascenti” offer theatrical performances in various places such as elderly homes and Italian clubs, as well as an annual end of year performance to acknowledge the performers achievements.

Rehearsals are held at the Stirling Community Center, 114 Stoneham Street, Tuart Hill, every second Sunday (4.30 pm – 6.00 pm), excluding public and school holidays. Participation in the club requires a $20 membership fee (per family or individual), which goes towards the hiring cost of the rehearsal space and the end of year performance space.

If you are above 18 and would like to participate in an Italian theatre community, please contact ‘The Italian Theatre of WA’, the adult community of performers.

If you have, or know of, anyone who would like to join the Stelle Nascenti, or for further information, please contact Rino Pellone; mobile: 0404011371; email: pellone@bigpond.net.au
