Welcome to the Overton FFA Newsletter

First off, we want to wish all of the Overton FFA students good luck as we jump into the Texas Major Show Season. We will have students competing at the Ft Worth, San Angelo, San Antonio, and Houston Livestock Shows along with a number of judging contest coming up as well.

With the Rusk County Youth Project show coming up please remember the following dates and times.

2024 RCYPS

**Schedule times are subject to change as need be if we see there is a conflict with RCYPS events

MONDAY, February 19th

4:00 - 8:00 pm - pm Check In - Creative Arts - ONLY - all entries check in the Tommy McDaniel exhibit hall

All FFA chapters and 4 H groups may begin bringing TACK only setting up in designated areas. 8:00 am - 8:30 pm - gates will be locked at 8:30 pm

TUESDAY, February 20th

7:00 am - 2:00 pm - All mech projects will be checked in. ALL projects need to be unloaded and in place by 2:00 pm (commercial heifers move in at 3)

9:00 am JUDGING OF CREATIVE ARTS - CLOSED TO PUBLIC

WEDNESDAY, February 21st

8:00 am - all Ag mechanics exhibitors report to their project for project judging. 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm Creative arts public viewing

12:00 pm - Creative Arts Results will be announced

All non sale items can start going home at noon after results are announced. All non sale projects must be removed from the expo by 8:00 pm. We will not be moving non sale items to the Wall of Brands. If you want to sell your project you can do that outside of the project show, we will not provide sale sheets for silent auction.

4:00-8:00 pm ENTRY CHECK-IN of all animals

All animals may come in and get unofficial weights starting at 10 am. All Market animals will be weighed in/ sifted between 4-8 pm. All Schools and clubs will have assigned pens.

8:00 pm - MANDATORY exhibitor meeting in the main show ring.

10:00 PM GATES CLOSE

THURSDAY, February 22nd

8:00 am JUDGING OF ROASTERS AND BROILERS

11:00 am- JUDGING OF MARKET LAMBS, BREEDING SHEEP, SHOWMANSHIP, & PEEWEE LAMBS

-JUDGING OF MARKET GOATS, DAIRY GOATS, BREEDING GOATS

FOLLOWED BY SHOWMANSHIP & PEEWEE GOATS

6:30 pm Scholarship Presentation & AUCTION OF COMMERCIAL

HEIFERS

AFTER Commercial Heifer Sale RESULTS OF SHOP PROJECTS - All students report to front area

SATURDAY, February 24th

8:00 am JUDGING OF MARKET STEERS & SHOWMANSHIP

JUDGING OF BREEDING HEIFERS & SHOWMANSHIP AFTER STEER SHOW American, English, Exotic- SHOW ORDER

5:30 pm BEGIN LINE UP FOR SALE OF CHAMPIONS & Scholarships, Awards, Herdsmen Presentations (Sale order- Steers,

Market Hogs, Goats, Lambs, Rabbits, Broilers, and Roaster)

6:00 pm SALE OF CHAMPIONS

Age Division of showmanship are as follows:(as of September 1)

• Peewee- ages 5-8 but not in 3rd grade

• Junior: at least 8 years old and in the 3rd grade, but no more than 5th grade

• Intermediate: must be in the 6th grade, but no more than 8th grade

• Senior: must be in at least the 9th grade, but not older than 19 and in the 12th grade
