ENV 304 & 304L: Ecology Crosslisted with BIO 304 & 304L

To learn more about the course, please refer to the latest course syllabus & laboratory syllabus:

Course Description

Ecology is the study of life on earth. In this course, we investigate natural phenomena at multiple scales, from the level of the individual organism to the global earth ecosystem. We also investigate interactions between humans and our environments. Students will explore the foundations of some of our most pressing environmental challenges and learn to develop actionable solutions. Laboratory activities introduce students to best practices in environmental measurements, data analysis, and scientific writing and communication.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain structures and dynamics of the environment at the organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels.
  • Critically evaluate interactions between humans and the environment.
  • Apply the scientific method, including measurements and data-analysis techniques, to answer questions in ecology.

ENV 304L: Example Labs

Our temporary transition to online-only education in Spring 2020 necessitated a creative approach to field labs! The resulting web pages provide a great example of the types of exercises we conduct in the lab.
