About Frank Spaziano Middle School

  • Frank Spaziano Middle School is an innovative educational facility designed to provide students with cutting-edge learning environments and the tools they need to succeed in today’s world. Focused on fostering academic excellence, the new school emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education while also incorporating modern technology and spaces dedicated to special education.
  • The project transforms the existing Spaziano Elementary School and Annex into a comprehensive preschool through eighth-grade campus. This new middle school campus enables students to remain in a dual-language environment as they transition from elementary to middle school, promoting academic consistency and a strong sense of community.

Project Overview:

  • Approved by City Council and School Building Authority in 2022 as an investment as part of district’s capital plan.

Programmatic Goals:

  • Create a PK-8 school community, a research-based approach for improving student achievement
  • Expand PPSD’s dual language program, a successful district program for supporting multilingual learners

Project Update Fall 2025

Project Update Winter 2025

In the last update, we were working on the sitework and beginning to start the foundations for the new school during the winter season. Now we are heading into Spring, the foundations and the process of waterproofing and backfilling the foundation have been nearly completed. As well as the work for the foundation for the elevator that will be installed at the school.

The erection of the structural steel has now started for the new building! Once the steel is fully installed you will be able to get an excellent concept of what the school is going to look like.

The structural steel is nearly installed, and you are now able to see what the shape of the new school will look like. The next event that will take place is the Beam Signing ceremony which will allow for members of the school and staff to sign the last beam before it is lifted up and attached to the building.
Multiple members from all parts of the City of Providence, from the Mayor to the Spaziano Family to the School department, came together and discussed the importance of the construction of the new school and how it will impact the life of the future students that will attend Spaziano Middle School, and transform the neighborhood!
Concrete began pouring on all the levels of the new school to begin the interior work.
The envelope of the building has started to be constructed around the building to encompass everything that will be inside the new school. Multiple layers being installed over various trades working together to get the building weather tight for this upcoming Winter.

Commitment to High-Quality Education

  • Part of the Providence Public School District’s (PPSD) Phase III projects, approved in May 2022, the Spaziano Middle School development represents a $34.5 million investment in education, funded as part of a broader $146 million initiative to improve learning facilities across the city. The project is key to PPSD’s ambitious goal of raising the percentage of students learning in high-quality facilities from just 5% to 100% by 2030.
  • Spaziano Middle School is a cornerstone of Providence’s commitment to providing equitable, state-of-the-art education for all students, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
