Heading to JFK

On Feb. 22, Staples High School students boarded the bus and headed towards JFK for a nine hour flight, first to Rome, then a short two hour hop to Athens Greece. The trip was organized by EF tours and took Staples students throught Greece.

The Corinth Canal

An engineering marvel

The Corinth Canal is a 6.4km long and 24.6m wide canal connecting the Gulf of Corinth to the Ionian Sea. The 45m drop to the bottom was an amazing sight as the students saw this marvel of engineering.

Ancient Theater

In one of the most unique sites in the world, the trip went to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, a theater famous for its sound design. The design of the theater is so spectacular that even modern research papers are written on the ability of performers to echo throughout the entire 14 thousand person theater.

“I could hear people talking from so far away. it was really impressive how a theater that old was so well designed,” Theo Rowen ’27 said
Behind the students is the Philippeion an ancient monument

Ancient Olympia

Behind the tour group is one of the few standing pillars of a temple at the original Olympic Games at Olympia. This historical sight is where the original games were held,

“there’s something surreal about standing on the same dirt where the first athletes competed over 2,500 years ago,” Tiffany Choi , a photogrpahy teacher, said.

The students got to learn about the thousands year old history of the olympic games and even race on the original olympic track.

Poros a small island town only has population of around three thousand

Island Cruise

On the last day of the trip everyone went on an island cruise which included the beautiful island of Poros. The little islands were filled to the brim with life.

“During the tri-island cruise, we visited an island with no cars. Because of this, there were a ton of cats. Now, I love cats, so I loved the island,” Daniel Dublin ’26 said.

From beautiful clear blue waters to islands famous for the best pistachios in the world the trip ended on a high note.

The Acropolis

At the center of Athens sits one of the most well known sites in all of Greece, the Acropolis. The impressive site is

“super impressive and one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen,” Sophie Sheng ’27 said.

Like other Staples sponsored trips this rip gave students an amazing opportunity to experience new culture and see the world.
