March 3rd-7th - Mardi Gras Break

Dear Bluejay Family,

As we approach the final week of school before the Mardi Gras break, we are also preparing our hearts for the sacred season of Lent. This time of reflection calls us to prayer, sacrifice, and acts of love, echoing the message of this today’s Gospel message from Luke 6:27-38.

In this passage, Jesus challenges us to love our enemies, do good to those who hate us, bless those who curse us, and give without expecting in return. These words remind us that Lent is not only about what we give up, but also about how we give of ourselves—through mercy, forgiveness, and generosity.

As a school community, we invite our Bluejay families to begin considering how they will embrace the Lenten journey. Here are a few ways we can prepare:

  • Practice Radical Love – Just as Jesus calls us to love beyond what is easy, let us seek opportunities to extend kindness and patience, even when it is difficult.
  • Give Generously – Whether through almsgiving, acts of service, or gifts of quality time, let us be cheerful givers, reflecting the love of Christ.
  • Deepen Our Prayer Life – Lent invites us to spend more time with God. Consider attending Mass, praying as a family, or reading Scripture together.

As we celebrate the joys of Mardi Gras, may we also keep in mind the deeper call of the season ahead—to grow in love, mercy, and faith. May our hearts be ready to embrace Lent with open hands and generous spirits.

Grace & Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

"Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." - Luke 6:38

Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule

March 5 Ash Wednesday Mass times at Sacred Heart: 8:30 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 6:00 p.m.

LENT

On Ash Wednesday we start the solemn season of Lent. This is a time of preparation and repentance, of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

PRAYER: This is a beautiful time to add in a new family prayer time (i.e. pray the Guardian Angel prayer on the way to school or say three things you are grateful for at the end of each day).

FAST: We encourage you to take time to prayerfully consider making a personal sacrifice (i.e. eliminate one of your coffee shop stops during the week) and maybe a family sacrifice (i.e. no fast food trips during the week).

ALMSGIVING: How can you provide for those who are less fortunate? (i.e. make cards for nursing home residents or serve at St. Joseph's Diner).

As a school we will pray the Lenten challenges found on the Hallow app. For our students we will pray The Little Way. In this challenge we will learn about different vocations, dive into saint stories, pray, hear homilies, and more! As adults we can pray together through Pray40: The Way. We will join Jonathan Roumie, Fr. Mike Schmitz, Sr. Miriam, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Cardinal Sarah and many more as we draw closer to Jesus, who is "the way, the truth, and the life." We hope you will pray with us as we follow Jesus into deeper faith every day this Lent.

Dear Bluejay Family,

It was a shortened week of sports at SCS as it seems that Old Man Winter wanted to play ball this week instead of us. Baseball and softball were able to get in games on Monday and Tuesday with track practicing also on Tuesday. After that, temperatures were too cold to play outside at the complexes. The League deemed the weather unsuitable for play.

On Saturday, March 15th, STM is hosting its annual Hopefest celebration. It will be held at the Youngsville Amphitheatre from 11am to 9pm. There will be a 5K, 1 mile run, and a pickleball tournament. You can follow the link below to sign up for the run. Also, please see the flyers below. Please come out to support STM and show your faith in action!

  • Monday, February 17th
  • 5th Grade Baseball vs. Opelousas Catholic- W
  • 5/6th Grade Softball vs. Sts. Leo Seton- W
  • 6th Grade Baseball vs. Catholic High-L
