Elevating the Power of SBC in Ouagadougou Partnership Countries

The Ouagadougou Partnership Coordination Unit has helped prioritize social and behavior change (SBC) at the regional level thanks to Breakthrough ACTION's technical assistance. For the past three years, social and behavior change has become a key focus of the Ouagadougou Partnership Annual Meetings and has now been integrated into their research agenda. Communities Lead the Way in Liberia

In Liberia, Health Advocacy Committees transitioned into autonomous civil society organizations to strengthen local health systems and ensure sustainability. The committees were initially established to influence social norms and drive community-led health initiatives by engaging trusted, influential leaders. Advocacy training and resource mobilization gave them the skills to operate independently. Breakthrough ACTION facilitated the process by working with them to develop governance structures, establish legal registration, and forge partnerships with other civil society groups. These efforts enabled Health Advocacy Committees to generate their own funding and continue their work beyond donor support, with nine out of 12 committees successfully evolving into civil society organizations by the end of 2023.
