Welcome everyone to this weeks newsletter.
Another great week of experiences for our pupils, immersing them in new opportunities. Older pupils are forming debates about matters affecting our local area and younger classes have been demonstrating their developing writing skills. Pupils are making great use of our school site and utilising the outdoors. Our staff are working hard to plan purposeful experiences in the forest and farm on their 'Udeskole' days.
We continue to receive communications from other schools and wider services about the work we are doing which is fantastic. This week we had visitors at lunch - our local PSCO's will be paying a visit to meet the children and develop links in our community.
Very soon we will be launching a new numeracy platform to support our learners. We're excited about what this will provide and further develop maths skills across the school.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
Mr Martin
In Dosbarth Alwen, we have been busy learning all about “Who’s in my family and where I live.” 🏡 The children have enjoyed drawing family portraits and designing their own houses. We have also introduced Dough Disco, which has been a big hit with everyone and is helping us develop our fine motor and pre-writing skills.
In PE, we have been practising balancing and coordination through fun obstacle courses. As part of our Udeskole outdoor learning day, the children loved making nature crowns and creating beautiful conker jewellery. A special highlight this week was when our Reception children had their class photograph taken for the Leader Live newspaper, which will be published on 24th October🤩
We have had another wonderful week in Dosbarth Padarn… the children have started phonics sessions this week and have impressed us with their skills so far. During Pupil Enquiry, we are focusing on our senses and this week we looked at ‘touch’. The children got messy with gloop and also had to put their hands into mysterious bowls to predict what was in them!
Dosbarth Tegid have been busy exploring lots of different skills this week. In maths, they have been practising their subtraction and using different strategies to solve a problem. As part of their wellbeing, they have been thinking about how to make the world a kinder place, sharing thoughtful ideas about how small actions can make a big difference.
The class have also enjoyed reading together while listening to relaxing music, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere that helps everyone to focus and enjoy their books. Da iawn pawb!
Dosbarth Brenig had a fab start to the week on Udeskole day as we harvested our own apples and cooked them on the fire to make an autumn snack.
In numeracy we have been developing our grouping skills using natural materials and how we can record this. In literacy we are continuing our work to raise awareness on how to care for our wildlife...next week we will begin to gather data on birds in our local area.
Dosbarth Gwynant have had another busy week full of wonderful work!
We have started to draft our persuasive speeches all about climate change and how we can combat these issues! There were lots of drafts using data and statistics that we have explored in previous weeks, da iawn!
We particularly enjoyed our udeskole session on Friday! We crushed up chalk to make our own washable paints and decorated the trees in the outdoor areas. We also collected lots of lovely, colourful autumn leaves to make a class wreath!
"First School Farm in North Wales" to all our new parents, do come and speak to us about the farm or chat with our families.
This week we received an Autumn package from Growtoschool who support schools growing food produce. This term and last have been a great test to see how well certain food types grow and how we might change our garden.....there is a plan to make an almighty pumpkin patch next year!!
Our new Ferry Farmers are empowered to take ownership of the animals care and the garden. Some have decided we need more beds...so they set to work. Autumn growers going in soon as well as making use of the tunnels donated by one parent. Diolch yn fawr!
