What is the EMG Pollinator Photo Contest?
The EMG Pollinator Photo Contest is held annually in conjunction with local Gaston County nurseries to promote the fundamental need of pollinators in our community. In an effort to raise awareness for pollinators and allowing them to live freely in our community, this year they have teamed up with the Master Gardener Group of Gaston County, the NC Cooperative Extension - Gaston County Center and Stowe Nursery to offer the 2024 Pollinator Photo Contest.
Our Extension Master Gardener Volunteers take great pride in caring for our local pollinators and supports happy, healthy environments for them; but they can't do in alone!
Contest Rules & Information
Submissions are open August 5– August 16, 2024 to Gaston, Lincoln & Cleveland County NC Residents of all ages*. A submission counts for the individual submitting and not for the household - this means that people in the same household can each participate! All photos will be loaded onto Facebook (@GastonExtension) for voting. Voting will be open August 21 - September 4, 2024. The public will be responsible for choosing the winner by ‘liking’ the photo(s) they want to vote for. Photo with the most votes will win. Votes will be tallied on September 6, 2023 and the winner will be announced on Facebook and contacted via email. Grand prize is $100 Stowe Nursery Gift Card + $100 Visa Gift Card.
Contest categories are: Bees, Wasps, Flies, Butterflies/Moths, & Other Insects (beetles, dragonflies, etc). Birds are NOT accepted for this contest.
By submitting up to three (3) photos you are affirming that you are the owner of the rights to the photo(s) and you agree the County and State may use the photo(s) in its publications, on its website, and/or on its social media. You further agree that by submitting photo(s) for the County and State's consideration, you waive any right to payment for their use.
*Children under the age of 18 are required to have parent or guardian approval before submitting to the contest. Should the winner be under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be present to pick up your prize.*
How can I participate?
Residents of all ages across Gaston, Lincoln and Cleveland County NC are invited to submit up to three (3) photos for this year's contest! Follow the link below to submit your photo(s). Gaston County Employees and Gaston County Cooperative Extension Volunteers are not restricted from participating, however Gaston County Cooperative Extension Employees are restricted from participating.
